Kickstarting the Auto Expo with a bang, Maruti Suzuki has showcased the eVX electric SUV concept to the country. Previously codenamed YY8, this is the first full-electric SUV to come from the stables of India’s largest passenger car manufacturer. Expected to go on sale by the year 2025, the new EV has been designed and developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation and is underpinned by a ground-up all-electric platform that will spawn numerous products in the future.
eVX for ‘Emotional Versatile Cruiser’, the new EV features a revolutionary design with a long wheelbase and short overhangs. Measuring 4.3 metres in length, the car sports a wheelbase of 2700 mm. From the moment one sets their eyes on this new product they can see the distinctive and progressive coupe-SUV like silhouette. As spotted at the motor show, the car gets a muscular design with upright posture and a horizontal hood. The sleek lines around the vehicle indicated the aerodynamic nature of the SUV, while the large wheels and the chunky body cladding amplify the SUV appeal. Towards the rear, the electric SUV features a sleek LED light bar the extends the width of the vehicle and a duckbill spoiler which is very reminiscent of the KIA EV6’s design.
On the inside, the dedicated EV platform helps in liberating the most space, increasing the practicality for its occupants. As it was the concept, the company did not provide concrete information on the SUVs interiors.
Built on an all-new dedicated EV platform, the eVX offers scalability and versatility. While the powertrain details were not revealed, the company confirmed that the new EV will come equipped with a 60 kWh battery pack with safe battery technology that is rated for over 550 kilometers of range on a single charge. Based on the announcements, we can confirm that the car will be offered with both a single motor and dual motor setup in a full time RWD and AWD configurations.
Like all concepts, the Maruti SUV EV Concept is expected to come equipped with features like a panoramic sunroof, numerous digital screens, a Heads-Up Display, ADAS, connected car technology with smartwatch compatibility, a 360-degree camera, and sustainable interior upholstery, among others.
The Maruti Suzuki eVX SUV EV Concept is likely to hit the Indian automobile market by early 2025. As per the company its expected to be priced in the range between Rs 13 lakh to 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
Alongside the new electric concept, we also witnessed the first public display of the WagonR Flex Fuel project car, which was unveiled a few months ago in Delhi.
