Recently, Mercedes-Benz released teasers for two upcoming models that will be launching around Diwali. Now, the automaker has confirmed that the two models will be the AMG C43 sedan and GLE facelift SUV. Both will be unveiled together on November 2. We take a closer look.
The Mercedes-AMG C43 is the performance-oriented version of the C-Class. Compared to the regular model, the C43 gets exterior changes like adaptive LED headlights with unique LED DRLs, enlarged air intakes, Panamerica front grille, black ORVMs, 18-inch alloy wheels, wider side sills, faux quad exhausts, and redesigned rear bumper with integrated diffuser.
Moving inside, the C43 AMG’s interior remains largely similar to the C-Class. However, it does get AMG-specific bits like unique graphics for the 11.9-inch infotainment system and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel, sportier pedals, red seat belts, and AMG sports seats.
Mechanically, powering the C43 AMG is a new 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor that is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Combined, it makes 402 bhp (415 bhp with boost function) and 500 Nm of max torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 9-speed torque converter automatic system.
While the C43 AMG is a brand-new model, Mercedes has also announced that it will launch the new facelift GLE alongside it. The SUV gets updated LED headlights, tweaked bumpers, all-new alloy wheels, and redesigned LED tail lights.
Changes to the Mercedes GLE’s interior are more noticeable with a new multifunction steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, updated MBUX infotainment system that gets new graphics and functionality, a more advanced Mercedes Distronic Plus active cruise control system, and new upholstery choices.
Mercedes offered the pre-facelift GLE in three variants, namely the 300d, 400d and 450. The facelift keeps the 300d and 450 models, but the 400d has been replaced with the new 450d.
Mechanically, the 300D’s turbo diesel unit makes 269 bhp with 500 Nm of peak torque while the 450’s six-cylinder petrol pumps out 381 bhp with 500 Nm of max torque. A new addition to the line-up will be the 450D with a six-cylinder turbo diesel unit making 367 bhp with 750 Nm of max torque. All three power trains are paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system that offers an extra 20 bhp and 200 Nm of max torque. A 9-speed automatic gearbox is the sole transmission choice.
The automaker is yet to reveal the pricing of the GLE facelift and new C43 AMG. Prices for the outgoing GLE range between Rs 91 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 1.08 crore (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the last-gen C43 was priced at Rs 82.47 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect both models to receive a mild price hike.
