BMW has officially launched its New 7 Series in the country with a starting price of Rs 1.70 crore (ex-showroom). The 7 Series which debuts in India alongside the i7 all-electric luxury sedan is available in only one petrol variant. However, the model gets new design language from the brand and a revised cabin with smart tech upgrades that also focus on rear passenger comfort. The deliveries of the 2023 New BMW 7 Series are slated to be announced in March this year. In addition, the diesel engine is expected to be added to the line-up in the coming months.
BMW has heavily revised its 7 Series. The brand’s new design philosophy has been implemented on its electric counterpart as well. The front end now features a split-LED headlight setup and a large kidney grille with illuminated lighting. The lower end of the front bumper has two sleek air vents on either side.
Moving on to the side profile, the model gets a new set of 19-inch 5 dual-spoke alloy wheels as standard which can be upgraded to 22-inch as per the customers requirement. The latest generation is significantly 131 mm longer than the previous model. BMW has also replaced traditional handles by featuring flush door handles with an internal touchpad and electronic mechanism.
Towards the rear, the German automaker has provided a full redesign to the flagship saloon. Its bumper has been reworked alongside the presence of new LED tail lamps and two sets of dual exhaust tips.
Unlike the previous 7 Series, the latest generation sports a revamped cabin that features a new curved infotainment screen. It comprises a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen which is running the latest iDrive 8 software. There is a control panel between the front seats with a gear selector, a traditional rotary iDrive controller and other touch-sensitive controls.
BMW also has incorporated major changes at the rear. The New 7 Series now receives a 31.3 inch, 8K cinema screen mounted on the roof that enables passengers to stream Amazon Fire TV in formats like 16:9, 21:9, and 32:9. Other notable features include a 5.5-inch touchscreen on rear door pads, a panoramic sunroof with LED lighting element, ambient lighting, and soft closing doors.
2023 BMW 7 Series is offered with only a petrol engine option in India, however, internationally, it offers mild-hybrid petrol, diesel engine, and plug-in hybrid petrol options. The latest generation of the 7 Series gets a 3.0-litre, inline 6-cylinder unit with a power output of 375 bhp and 520 Nm of torque. In addition, this engine gets mild-hybrid tech, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The luxury saloon can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.4 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 250 kmph. For a comfortable ride, it features adaptive air suspension and electronically controlled dampers as standard.
Further, the car is underpinned by a heavily modified version of BMW’s CLAR platform. It is available only in a long-wheelbase guise to offer more space and comfort. The model also gets the latest version of the brand’s Integral Active Steering which can provide up to 3.5 degrees of steering angle to the rear wheels.
The latest generation of BMW 7 Series will compete with other luxury saloons in the country. It includes facelifted Audi A8 L and the Mercedes Benz S-class.
