BMW is all set to reveal the Next-Generation 5 Series globally on the 24th of May 2023. Ahead of its debut, the brand has released teaser images stating the upcoming car’s exterior and interior design. The German automaker is also expected to unveil the pure electric i5 alongside the New 5-Series.
The latest teaser from BMW gives us a look into the front end of the Next-Generation 5 Series. Like most new BMWs, it will provide a larger kidney grille that features illuminated surrounds similar to the New 7 series. The grille is flanked by slim LED headlights with BMW’s Laser Light Technology and signature DRLs.
As for the side profile, the upcoming premium sedan will offer minimal character lines and flush-fitting door handles. Towards the rear, the car will feature new LED taillights that are similar to the new 7 Series’ design while the tailgate will slope slightly downwards.
Moving inside, it is clear via these images that the model will follow BMW’s new interior design theme with a dual-screen setup. It will incorporate a large, free-standing touchscreen and a full digital instrument cluster - both running on the latest iDrive 8.5 OS. There is a smaller screen sitting right underneath the infotainment system that controls the additional climate control functions. The car will also feature ambient lighting throughout the cabin.
BMW will offer the New 5 Series with both petrol and diesel powertrain options alongside a pure electric version. The ICE variants will come equipped with turbocharged 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines providing a 48V mild-hybrid system. Introduction of a new plug-in hybrid could also be on the cards.
As for the all-electric BMW i5, it is expected to offer a 80.7 kWh battery pack with a WLTP-cycle claimed range of over 573 kms. It will power a single or a dual-motor setup, depending on the variant selected delivering a maximum power output ranging between 340 bhp to 544 bhp.
Following its global reveal, the car is expected to go on sale later this year. In India, the automaker is likely to launch the New 5 Series in its long-wheelbase version by mid of 2024.
Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Jaguar XF, Audi A6, and the New Mercedes E-Class.
