Nissan's next Micra will follow a new direction, with an all-electric version planned for release by the end of 2025. However it was discontinued in India, we can expect it to come back at the end of this year with new avatar. The next-generation Micra, which has already been teased in concept form as the Nissan 20-23 concept at the 2023 Auto Expo, will feature a new, cutting-edge look and feel. Here's what the next Micra has in store when it lands in dealerships.
The future Micra will be a far cry from the current model as it will transition to an all-electric platform. The 20-23 concept, unveiled at Nissan's European Design Centre in London, gives us a glimpse of what the future Micra will look like. The concept is intended to commemorate Nissan's 20 years of design leadership in London and involvement in Formula E, the electric vehicle racing championship.
The 20-23 model features the CMF-BEV underpinnings, which is also shared by Nissan's partner Renault. It will also find application in Renault 5 and Alpine A290. While there was aggressive, edgy styling for the concept car with touches of big diffusers, scissor doors, and race-inspired styling, the road-going Micra will be utilitarian sufficient. But certain design cues, such as the two-piece circular LED lights and the floating roof, will very much find their way on.
The design of the Micra for production will likely be small and sporty electric hatchback. It will have an electric motor mounted at the front that will produce around 134 horsepower, and this will provide a comfortable and responsive drive. The vehicle will be able to run for around 400 kilometers on a single charge, which will be ideal for daily commutes and cross-country travels.
Nissan will produce this new Micra at its ElectriCity plant in France, where it also will build the Renault 5. New Micra is not just a step up for Nissan's EV lineup but a flagship model for the automaker as it launches more electric cars worldwide.
Interior, the replacement Micra should maintain its tech and simplicity focus. The 20-23 has a clean, space-age interior with yoke-type steering column, bucket seats, and floating dash. Though radical bits such as those won't make it into the mass-market car, we expect its interior will be practical and contemporary and feature elements of high-tech ilk such as digital gauges, simple-to-use infotainment system, and more storage compartments than you can shake a stick at.
As electric vehicles become more popular, the Nissan Micra will offer a low-cost option in the city car sector that balances performance with environmental credentials.
The Micra has been a staple in several markets around the globe, including India and Europe. Although Nissan ended Indian production of the Micra a few years back, the new electric model might eventually find its way back into markets like India, where demand for cheaper electric vehicles is on the rise. That said, at present, Nissan is prioritizing its Indian lineup of SUVs, with the flagship being the Magnite.
As Nissan gets set to launch this new electric Micra, the automaker is well-positioned to lead the EV revolution. While no formal release date has been announced yet, the next-generation Micra's estimated release time is around 2025.
With the electric car industry still growing so rapidly, the new Nissan Micra has pledged to have a key role to play in the future of the mini car. Watch this space for more on this revolutionary new vehicle as Nissan pushes design and technology to even greater extremes.
