Skoda Auto has just revealed the powertrain details of the next-gen Superb. Alongside the powertrain, the company also released camouflaged images of the premium sedan giving us a first look at the upcoming model. The automaker is slated to unveil the fourth-gen model by the end of the year. Let’s take a closer look.
While Skoda’s new images do not reveal the full design, it does reveal some of the elements of the next-gen Superb. The upcoming sedan model gets the trademark Skoda grille that is flanked by sleek LED headlights. The front bumper gets new air curtains for better aerodynamic efficiency. At the rear, the Superb LED tail lights feature crystal-like elements.
The automaker also confirmed some of the creature comforts and tech the new Superb interior will get. Notable features include a new 12.9-inch infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, HUD and a column-mounted drive selector. Skoda also stated that the interior will retain physical controls and buttons alongside Haptic Touch controls.
Skoda said it has added a host of new ADAS features on the Superb as well. This includes Turn Assist, which warns the driver of potential collisions with oncoming vehicles while turning into side streets. There is also Crossroad Assist that detects traffic at low-visibility intersections. The brand says it has updated its Front Assist system to include Predictive Cyclist Protection.
The next-gen Superb will be offered with five powertrain choices including two petrol, two diesel, and a plug-in hybrid. The latter will combine a 1.5-litre TSI petrol motor with a 25.7 kWh battery pack, making a combined 204 bhp. It will be mated to a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission. Škoda says the Superb iV will have an electric-only range of over 100 km.
The 1.5-litre TSI will also be offered in the entry-level Superb but will be paired with a mild-hybrid system instead. Meanwhile, the larger 2.0-litre TSI petrol will be offered in two states of tune, either 204 bhp or 265 bhp. Transmission duties will be handled by a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox on both powertrains. The next-gen Superb will also be offered with a 2-litre turbo diesel motor in two states of tune- 150 bhp or 193 bhp and will be mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
Skoda recently discontinued the third-gen Superb in India as it did not meet the new BS6 Phase II norms. The automaker has already confirmed it will bring back the current-gen model in India soon. As for the next-gen Superb, expect it to be launched in India around late-2024 or early-2025.
