Skoda Auto had shortlisted 10 names for its upcoming sub-compact SUV including Kayaq, Karmiq, Kliq, Kaiq, Kyrog, Kosmiq, Kwiq, Kariq, Kylaq, and Kymaq. Out of these, the Kylaq name has been finalised for its new offering. This is a Sanskrit name that means 'Crystal,' symbolising clarity and purity. It is slated to launch in early 2025. Expect the upcoming Skoda car to be priced at Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, it will rival Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra 3XO, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Renault Kiger.
Previous sightings have hinted that the 2025 Skoda Kylaq could carry a split headlamp setup. It could come with a new front grille, LED DRLs, sculpted bonnet with a brand's logo, roof rails, new alloy wheels, and inverted L-shaped LED taillights.
In terms of features, the upcoming compact SUV is likely to get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital driver's display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, and more.
Based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the new Kylaq is expected to get a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. This engine also powers the base and mid-spec variants of Skoda Kushaq and Slavia. Mated with a 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic transmission, this engine can produce 114 bhp of power and 178 Nm of torque.
