India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
The Tata Nexon has been dominating the sub-4-meter SUV segment since its launch in 2017. Its fresh design, practicality, upmarket interior, and affordability have made it popular among buyers. The availability of multiple powertrains and variants not only caters to different customer needs but also maximizes profitability and gives it a competitive advantage. Furthermore, the Nexon is India’s first compact SUV to score a 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP. This compact SUV received its first mid-life update in 2020 and its second major update in 2023.
The competition for the Tata Nexon is set to become fiercer with the arrival of three new models. Let’s take a look at key details of these upcoming vehicles.
The Kia Syros (codenamed AY) will make its global debut in the coming weeks, while its market launch will happen early next year. This new subcompact SUV will derive its design inspiration from the globally sold EV9 and the new Carnival. Spy images confirm that the Syros will have an upright and boxy stance with high ground clearance. Its headlamps and DRLs will be inspired by the new Kia EV9 – the flagship electric SUV from the South Korean automaker. Its test mule was spotted with two different dual-tone 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Inside, the new Kia Syros will feature a Seltos-inspired digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system. Some of its other key features will include a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, ventilated and powered front seats, traction modes, a Bose audio system, a climate control system, and more. The ADAS suite could be exclusively offered with the higher trims. The Syros is reported to come with multiple powertrain options, including an electric version at a later stage.
Last month, we got to see the first spy images of the new-generation Hyundai Venue. Codenamed QU2i, this subcompact SUV is expected to arrive in the first half of 2025. While the spied test mule was completely camouflaged, its original boxy stance was clearly visible. Most of its design changes will be inspired by the Creta and Alcazar facelifts. The headlamp cluster with a split pattern appears similar to the Creta, while the front grille and bumper are wider and taller, respectively. The prototype also featured a module for ADAS. A few changes will also be made at the rear end.
The interior will witness minimal updates. The dashboard will be redesigned, and new trims and upholstery could also make their way. Material quality might also be upgraded. The 2025 Hyundai Venue might come with a panoramic sunroof. The existing 1.0L turbo petrol, 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, and 1.5L diesel engines will be carried forward with the generation shift.
Bookings for the upcoming Skoda Kylaq will start nationwide on 2nd December, and deliveries will commence from 27th January 2025 onwards. The base variant of this subcompact SUV is priced at Rs 7.89 lakh, while prices for the other variants will be revealed later. The Kylaq features Skoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design language, along with design elements such as a Kushaq-like split headlamp setup with LED DRLs, a slimmer front grille, and a sporty front bumper with extensive cladding.
Its interior also shares a strong resemblance with the Kushaq, including the dashboard design, two-spoke steering wheel, side vents, climate control panel, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The subcompact SUV offers a boot space of 446 liters (without the parcel tray).
The Skoda Kylaq will be powered by a 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine that produces 115bhp and 178Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
