New Car Buying Platform
Tata Motors is bringing significant updates to some of its popular models in India, Safari and Punch. The automaker has omitted several features on the Safari Pure while some variants of the Punch have been removed. Let's break the same down.
The Safari is one such vehicle with an interior of spacious comfort and now, as per changes applied, in the Pure variant along with higher trims. These Pure variants do not command any extra prices, but at the same time, their loss of a few features makes them somewhat of an unknown value-for-money affair.
Two significant losses are the deletion of AC vents for the third row on the Pure variant, now replaced with dummy caps. Additionally, the floor console armrest for front passengers is no longer in the trims and replaced by a dummy cap. The spare wheel and its carrier will not be provided for the trims. Among the features deleted are roof lamps for the second and third rows and the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and its indicators as well.
Tata Motors has provided a few updates despite the deletions. The Safari now features a 10.25-inch infotainment screen and rear camera system, thereby upgrading the driving experience. The shark fin antenna gives the car an added touch of modernity on the outside. Though the manual adjustment for the ORVMs has been simplified, the engine remains unchanged. The Safari is still offered with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, which makes 167.67 bhp and 350 Nm of torque, with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Another very popular sub-4m SUV, the Tata Punch, also changed the variant list. As it was the smallest in size and most affordable, the Punch became one of the best-selling models for Tata Motors.
Tata has axed two trim levels from the Punch, namely the Adventure and Adventure Rhythm variants, which are available for both petrol and Petrol+CNG variants. These variants were notch above the base Pure persona. This discontinuation means that buyers now have to start with the Adventure S trim that comes with a single-pane sunroof and is priced at Rs 7.6 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Adventure S AMT now begins at Rs 8.2 lakh, without the Adventure variants. On the CNG variants, the Adventure iCNG has been priced starting at Rs 8.55 lakh. These changes might have Tata moving toward encouraging models with sunroofs as part of the mid-trim offerings, as in line with buyer demand.
