India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
• Gets a new grille and rear bumper • Will get new feature updates including ADAS tech and 360-degree camera • Likely to be priced higher than current model
Recently, spy shots of a Tata Safari prototype clad in camouflage has surfaced on the internet. This means that an update may be on the horizon soon. While one shouldn’t expect too many significant changes, the company could be bringing major feature and equipment updates.
The visible update on the upcoming Tata Safari facelift is the grille. The tri-arrow pattern has been swapped with new rectangular design elements with silver accents which is similar to the grille on the Harrier. The rear bumper is now finished in black instead of silver completing the overall look of the SUV.
Most of the major updates are likely going to be to the brains of the vehicle. Compared to its competitors like the MG Hector Plus and the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Motor’s SUV has always fallen short on the equipment on offer. The new update will see the Safari get a larger touchscreen infotainment system and 360-degree cameras.
Tata Motors could also be adding ADAS features like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, emergency braking and rear traffic alerts to the new Safari. It will become the first model in the automaker’s lineup to be offered with this tech.
Expect the upcoming Safari facelift to continue with the existing 2.0-litre FCA diesel engine that produces a maximum power output of 170 bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. This system comes mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission option. While there are not petrol engines currently, the company is working on a brand-new petrol powertrain to join the company’s SUV soon.
Currently, the Tata Safari is priced between Rs 15.45 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base XE and Rs 23.76 lakh (ex-showroom) for the XZA Plus Gold 6 Str AT top model. Expect Tata Motors to increase the price of the SUVs to justify the added equipment.
