2025 will be an exciting year for the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market, with several new models from top OEMs are ready to hit roads. In this article, we take a closer look at the top 10 upcoming electric cars in India, covering their expected price, range and all key details.
India’s largest PV (passenger vehicle) manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce its first-ever EV – the e Vitara – in March 2025. However, its launch date is yet to be announced. It’s a midsize electric SUV that will challenge the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and MG ZS EV. The carmaker has confirmed that the Maruti e Vitara will be offered with two battery packs – 49kWh and 61kWh, with the front-axle mounted motors delivering power worth 143 bhp and 173 bhp, respectively. Torque for both setups is the same 192.5Nm. Maruti Suzuki has revealed that the larger battery pack version will offer an MIDC-rated range of over 500km. It comes with three drive modes – Eco, Normal and Sport.

The Tata Harrier EV is scheduled to go on sale in March 2025. The powertrain specifications are yet to be revealed; however, the electric SUV is likely to come with two battery pack options. The higher trims might get a dual motor configuration with an AWD system. The Harrier EV is built on Tata’s Gen 2 Acti.ev architecture, which is a heavily revised version of the Omega platform. Tata has confirmed that the EV will offer a peak torque of 500 Nm. This electric SUV will come with the V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) and V2L (vehicle-to-load) charging capabilities along with new terrain modes, cloud connected telematics, over-the-air updates and connected car tech.

Mahindra & Mahindra has been testing the electric iteration of the XUV 3XO subcompact SUV, which is expected to arrive in coming months. As of now, there is no official word on its launch timeline and powertrain details. However, the reports suggest that the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV might use a 35kWh battery pack. The spy images reveal that the SUV will receive some EV-specific design changes including a revised front grille, tweaked front and rear bumpers, newly-designed alloy wheels and ‘EV’ badging. The XUV 3XO EV will site below the Mahindra XUV400 EV, and sold alongside its EV sibling.

MG Cyberster will be the brand’s first model to be sold via MG Select premium dealership network, which will be followed by the Mifa 9 luxury MPV. The pre-bookings for this electric sports car are open, while deliveries are expected to begin in April 2025. Prices will be announced in coming weeks. The powertrain setup of the Cyberster includes a 77kWh battery pack with one motor on each axle, paired to an AWD (all-wheel drive) system.
MG claims that it can achieve 0 to 100kmph in just 3.2 seconds. The MG Cyberster offers a range of 580km as per the CLTC (Chine Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle). The design of the electric sports car is inspired by the MG B Roadster. It has scissor-style doors, a 10.25-inch driver’s display, two 7-inch screens, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ADAS suite, a 360 degree parking camera, adaptive cruise control and several advanced features.

JSW MG Motor India is all set to introduce the Mifa 9 luxury MPV to challenge the Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire. For people not in the know, the MG Mifa 9 is being sold as Maxus G90 in China and the UK. Globally, it is offered with the two ICE engine options – 2.0L petrol and 2.0L diesel boosted with a mild hybrid system. The Mifa 9 EV features a 90kWh lithium battery pack, a front-axle mounted electric motor and the FWD (front-wheel drive) system. The electric motor pushes out a maximum power of 245 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The Mifa 9 offers a claimed WLTP range of 430km on a single charge.

The updated Kia EV6 electric crossover was showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show in January. Similar to the pre-facelift version, the facelifted one will be offered in two GT-Line variants with the RWD (rear-wheel drive) and AWD (all-wheel drive) configurations. Based on the E-GMP platform, the 2025 Kia EV6 facelift comes with a larger 84kWh battery pack and two electric motors, delivering a combined power output of 325 bhp and 605 Nm of torque. This electric SUV has AWD (all-wheel drive) layout, and offers a claimed range of over 650km on a single charge. Kia says that the fast charging speeds of the EV6 facelift are better than the pre-facelift. It can be charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes by using a 350kW fast charger.

The Kia Carens EV has been on test for a while now. The electric compact MPV is expected to arrive in the second half of 2025. Its official specifications are still under the wraps. However, the Carens EV is expected to share the 42kWh battery pack with the Hyundai Creta Electric. The Creta EV’s 42kWh battery with the front axle mounted electric motor and FWD setup, delivers an ARAI claimed range of 390km. The Kia Carens EV will receive a few EV-specific design elements inside and out. On the exterior, the closed-off grille could be borrowed from the Kia EV9. This electric MPV will also get the revised bumpers and alloy wheels, inspired by the EV3 and EV5.

Mahindra & Mahindra will roll out its third born-electric SUV this year. It will be the electric version of the XUV700 based on the INGLO architecture that also underpins the BE 6 and XEV 9e. Specifications of the Mahindra XEV 7e are not available at this point. However, this electric SUV is likely to share its powertrains with the XEV 9e, which is available with the 59kWh and 79kWh LFP battery packs. The smaller battery delivers an MIDC range of 542km, while the larger battery pack promises a range of 656km on a single charge. Besides sharing powertrains, the Mahindra XEV 7e will borrow several design elements and features with the Mahindra XEV 9e.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is re-badged version of the Maruti e Vitara, which is slated to arrive in the second half of 2025 (possibly around the Diwali season). Both electric SUVs will share powertrains, design elements, platform and features. Aiming to distinguish both models, Toyota will make a few changes to its exterior including the thinner headlamps, differently designed nose and bumper, and toned-down taillamps. The powertrain setup of the Toyota Urban Cruiser will include the 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options, delivering a range of over 500km.

Hyundai Motor India has confirmed four mainstream electric cars, including the Creta Electric that’s currently on sale in the country. The range is likely to include the Inster EV, Venue EV and Grand i10 Nios EV. The Hyundai Venue EV is expected to be introduced with the new-generation Venue towards the end of this year. This electric subcompact SUV will come as a direct rival of the Tata Nexon EV and the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. As of now there is no official word on its powertrain, design and interior.
