August was an exciting month for auto enthusiasts, as several new cars were launched in the Indian auto market. While Nisan re-introduce the X-Trail nameplate, Tata Motors entered the mid-sized EV segment with the Curvv EV. Not just that, Mahindra, Citroen, Lamborghini, Audi and BMW also launched their exciting new cars. In this article, we talk about the top 5 cars launched in the month of August 2024.
Tata Motors had launched the Curvv EV on August 7. The electric SUV Coupe is available in the price bracket of Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It is offered with two battery packs - a 150 PS/ 215 Nm electric motor, while the 55 kWh is paired with a 167 PS/ 215 Nm electric motor. It also supports V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) charging functionality.
It supports fast charging, as the battery can be charged from 10 to 80% in 40 minutes using a 70kW DC fast charger. It takes around 8 hours to charge the battery using a 7.2kW AC charger. The SUV Coupe gets a touch-based panel for climate control, a four-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, a rotary drive selector, a gear lever, a six-way electrically adjustable driver's seat, and wireless charging pad.
In terms of safety, the SUV Coupe gets six airbags, a 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors, all 4 disc brakes, brake with auto hold function, electronic parking brake, ESP, traction and ABS with EBD. It gets Level 2 ADAS tech with features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance assist, autonomous emergency braking, high beam assist, blind spot detection, and more.
Citroen introduced the Basalt SUV Coupe on August 9, 2024. It sits below the C3 Aircross in Citroen's line-up and comes as an affordable alternative to mid-sized SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and others. It is available in 3 trims - You, Plus and Max - and in total of 6 variants. The SUV Coupe is available in the price bracket of Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 13.62 lakh.
The new Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe is available with two engine options - 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated and a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol. While the former is good for 81bhp and 115Nm of torque, the turbo unit churns out 108bhp with 195Nm of torque (in manual), and 108bhp with 205Nm (in automatic) guises. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
In terms of features, the Coupe SUV gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, automatic climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital driver's display, a 3-step adjustable thigh support for the second row, rear AC vents, and six airbags.
Mahindra had launched the Thar Roxx 5-door lifestyle SUV in the country on the day of Independence Day. This is a lifestyle SUV for masses, as it has all the equipment and features that are missing in the Thar 3-door. The Mahindra Thar Roxx SUV has been launched in the price bracket of Rs 12.99 lakh to Rs 20.49 lakh. It is available in 7 trim levels - MX1, MX3, AX3L, MX5, AX5L and AX7L.
The Thar Roxx is based on Mahindra's new 3G platform, which also underpins the Scorpio-N. Not just the architecture, the SUV shares the powertrains, suspension set-up and features with the Scorpio. It is available with two engine options - a 2.0-litre, turbo petrol direct injection (TGDI) and a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel. While the gasoline unit is only offered as a RWD model, the turbo diesel is available with both RWD and 4x4 drive options.
The petrol engine offers 2 states of tunes- 160hp/330Nm and 174hp/380Nm, while the diesel engine is tuned to produce 150hp and 330Nm of torque. The oil burner can produce up to 172bhp and 370Nm with automatic gearbox and 4x4 drive option. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The SUV features independent front suspension and Watt's Linkage-type rear suspension. It also gets Frequency dependent damping and Multi tuning valve - Concentric land dampers.
Key features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, 6-way powered driver's seat and recline function for the second-row seats. For safety and security, the SUV gets six airbags, TPMS, front & rear parking sensors, reverse camera, auto dimming IRVM, ESC, ABS with EBD, engine drag torque control, vehicle dynamics control, hill hold control, hill descent control, traction control system, roll over mitigation, brake locking differential, brake disc wiping, etc.
The globally popular Nissan X-Trail was reintroduced in the Indian market on August 1, 2024. The SUV is available in a single variant, which costs Rs 49.92 lakh (ex-showroom). It comes as a completely built-up (CBU) unit. The SUV rivals the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq.
The Nissan X-Trail is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 161bhp and 300Nm of torque. This 3-cylinder engine is mated to a CVT gearbox and paddle shifters. It is benefited with a 12V mild-hybrid technology. The SUV comes with 3 drive modes - Eco, Standard and Sport.
In terms of features, the SUV gets an 8-inch infotainment unit with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a 12-inch digital driver's display, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, wireless charger and others. For safety and security, the SUV gets seven airbags, a 360-degree surround camera, front & rear parking sensors, traction control, auto hold, hill start assist, vehicle dynamic control, ABS with EBD, and brake assist.
Lamborghini launched the new Urus SE at Rs 4.57 crore (ex-showroom) in the Indian market on August 9, 2024. It comes with a slightly tweaked styling, revised interior and more features. The luxury model comes with a hybrid setup that consists of a twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor and an on-board battery pack.
The Lamborghini Urus SE gets a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine that offers up to 612bhp and 800Nm of torque. The powertrain is mated to an electric motor integrated into an 8-speed AT. This electric motor offers an additional 189bhp and 483Nm. The combined power and torque output stands at 789bhp and 950Nm, respectively. It is packed with a 25.9kWh battery pack, which allows the Urus SE to run up to 60km on electric. The SUV gets air suspension, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, and 48V anti-roll bars to control yaw, pitch and lean.
