Volvo cars, the Swedish automaker has just unveiled the brand’s first-ever luxury MPV, the EM90 globally. The new model is set to make its debut first in China followed by other global markets.
Volvo cars has nicely incorporated its signature design elements into the EM90’s unmistakably boxy proportions. The front end features the Thor-hammer LED headlights and a large closed-off grille that incorporates an illuminated logo. Towards the sides, a strong shoulder line runs the length of the vehicle, while the blacked-out pillars, sliding rear doors and optional 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels give the EM90 an upmarket presence.
The rear end actually features a new design for the vertically stacked LED tail lights which now extend above and below the windscreen.
The new Volvo EM90 interior has been designed to cater to both executive and family purposes. The dashboard gets a 15.4-inch infotainment system and a fully digital display that controls most of the functions.
Being a strict 6-seater, the 2024 EM90 features powered and ventilated lounge seats in the middle row with massage functions, a roof-mounted 15.6-inch screen that folds down and is tilt-adjustable, electrically adjustable window blinds and climate zones on the rear doors. Other feature highlights include a panoramic sunroof, connected car tech, wireless charging, a glass-finished drive selector and a 21-speaker audio setup from Bowers and Wilkins.
The Volvo EM90 uses a large, 116 kWh battery pack. It powers a single electric motor that pumps out 272 bhp of peak power. The automaker claims a range of 738 km on the CLTC (China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) since it will launch there first. The EM90 also supports fast charging which allows the EV to charge from 10% - 80% in just 30 minutes.
As mentioned above, the Volvo EM90 will launch in China first, likely by early 2024. The brand is yet to confirm when it will introduce the luxury-electric MPV in other markets. As for the India launch, expect Volvo to bring the new model after the unveiling of the EX90 electric SUV.
