The Tata Altroz Racer is essentially a sporty variant of the Altroz premium hatchback, challenging the Hyundai i20 N Line. This performance hatchback has Tata’s robust build quality along with the additional features. It receives significant mechanical upgrades and cosmetic changes over the regular model.
The Altroz Racer has its own identity with a dual-tone color scheme, racing stripes, and sporty blacked-out details. The dual-tone theme continues inside the cabin as well. It offers some segment-first features, such as ventilated front seats, a voice-assisted sunroof, and a 360-degree camera. The Altroz Racer is a value-for-money offering for buyers looking for a perfect mix of practicality and driving excitement without breaking the bank.
This sporty hatchback is offered in 3 variants – R1, R2, and R3 – which are priced between Rs 949000 and Rs 1099000. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom.

The Tata Altroz Racer has a dual-tone Black and Red interior theme with red accents on the door trims, dashboard elements, and seats. The seat upholstery, with red stitching, adds to its sporty look. The seats are designed with added side bolsters, offering better support at high speeds. The rear seats provide ample legroom and headroom, making it practical for long drives and families. There are red highlights around the AC vents and gear lever on the center console.
It’s the first hatchback to come with ventilated front seats, along with features such as a 360-degree camera and a voice-assisted sunroof. The Racer variant comes with a larger 10.25-inch floating touchscreen with a new operating system, supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This unit also supports voice commands and has Tata’s iRA (Intelligent Real-time Assist) technology, offering access to connected car features such as remote commands, location-based services, and real-time vehicle diagnostics. It has a 7-inch fully digital TFT instrument cluster displaying essential information.
The performance hatchback also offers a wireless charging pad, automatic climate control, cruise control, an electric panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, push-button start/stop, Xpress cool, air purifier, leather-wrapped front sliding armrest, steering wheel and gear knob, all four power windows, height-adjustable driver seat, and rear AC vents.
Dimensionally, the sporty Altroz Racer is similar to its regular counterpart. Its overall length, width, and height stand at 3,990mm, 1,755mm, and 1,523mm. It has a wheelbase of 2,501mm and a ground clearance of 165mm (unladen). Such compact dimensions make it suitable for both city driving and highway cruising.
The sporty hatchback offers one of the largest boot spaces in the segment – 345 liters. It’s spacious enough to accommodate medium-sized luggage, weekend travel essentials, and shopping bags. The luggage area can be further expanded by folding the rear seats in a 60:40 split.
The Tata Altroz is the safest car in its segment, with a full 5-star safety rating in Global and Bharat NCAP crash tests. The same rating applies to its Racer variant. Based on the ALFA architecture, the Altroz Racer offers six airbags as standard, along with ABS with EBD, corner stability control, and an electronic stability program.
The R2 variant additionally offers a 360-surround-view system and blind view monitor. The safety kit also includes ISOFIX child seat anchors, rear parking sensors and camera, driver and passenger seatbelt reminders, high-speed alert system, auto-dimming IRVM, and impact-sensing door unlock.
The major highlight of the Tata Altroz Racer is the 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that’s tuned to generate 120bhp and 170Nm of torque. It has a 6-speed manual gearbox for transmission duties.
The claimed mileage of the Altroz Racer is approximately 18-19 kmpl under standard test conditions. However, it may vary based on factors such as road conditions, driving style, and traffic.
The Tata Altroz Racer comes in three dual-tone paint schemes – Atomic Orange, Pure Grey, and Avenue White.
The Altroz Racer directly rivals the Hyundai i20 N Line, which is available with a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with manual and dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
