Honda Cars India has revealed its roadmap for the next seven years, which includes four new SUV launches. While the Elevate midsize SUV is already on sale, it will be followed by an EV based on the Elevate, a three-row SUV, and a subcompact SUV. The new Honda electric SUV, planned for 2026, will face competition from the forthcoming Hyundai Creta EV, Maruti eVitara, and Mahindra BE.6, as well as the Tata Curvv EV and MG ZS EV. Meanwhile, the three-row SUV will compete against the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and the upcoming 7-seater SUVs from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. Here’s a brief overview of these two upcoming Honda SUVs:
The electric iteration of the Elevate will be built on a heavily modified version of the SUV’s existing platform. It will be Honda’s first pure electric offering in India, featuring a new nameplate and design language. This EV will be part of Honda’s ACE (Asian Compact Electric) project. The automaker aims to export 50 to 70 percent of its total production from India to key overseas markets, including Japan.
Compared to the ICE-powered Elevate, the Honda Elevate EV will feature some EV-specific design elements, making it visually distinct. While specifications are not yet available, the electric SUV is expected to have a battery pack with a capacity between 50kWh and 60kWh, paired with a front-wheel-mounted electric motor. Its range is anticipated to be around 500 km.
The new Honda 7-seater SUV will debut the brand’s all-new modular PF2 platform. In Honda’s product lineup, this three-row SUV will be positioned above the Elevate. It is being designed and developed by Honda’s R&D centers in Japan and Thailand.
Reports suggest that the new 7-seater SUV might be powered by a 1.5L, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine borrowed from the Elevate. This engine delivers a maximum power output of 121bhp and 145Nm of torque. Honda might also offer the City’s hybrid powertrain as an option. Similar to the Elevate, transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual and a 7-step CVT automatic gearbox.
