All-New Mahindra Bolero Launch By 2026 - More Details Emerge

While most manufacturers are looking at EVs and hybrids, Mahindra aims to equally increase its ICE and EV portfolio to further improve its sales. The brand's new breed of cars including Thar Roxx, Scorpio-N, Thar and XUV 3XO have received an overwhelming response from buyers. Mahindra is also working on an all-new architecture, which will be used to produce atleast 6 ICE vehicles in the country before the end of this decade.

The big update is that Mahindra is developing the next-gen Bolero lifestyle SUV, which is likely to be launched by 2026-27. The new generation of Mahindra's old warhorse, the Bolero, will be based on an all-new platform. Called U171, the new platform will bring more investment to produce new ICE-powered vehicles in the country.

The new U171 platform is expected to be used to underpin close to 6 different types of vehicles including SUVs and pickup trucks. The company could use this architecture to develop the Bolero-based pick-up. Mahindra could launch 3 SUVs on this architecture, and these models are likely to contribute annual sales of 1.5 lakh. The new Mahindra Bolero will be the first model to be based on the U171 architecture.

Mahindra's latest SUVs including XUV700, Thar and Scorpio-N are hugely popular among urban consumers. With the next-gen Bolero, Mahindra aims to further strengthen its position among the rural and semi-urban Indians. The current Mahindra Bolero is hugely popular in rural India, especially in the Central and Northern parts. Mahindra is currently selling around 8000 to 9000 units of the Bolero per month, and with new model, the company aims to further improve its sales.

The next-gen Bolero will also replace the slow-selling Bolero Neo. The 5-seater version will sit under 4 meters in length; however, a long wheelbase version will also be introduced. The LWB Bolero will be positioned against the popular Force Citiline. This model is expected to be launched as a 9-seater UV with 4 front facing seats. The new Bolero is likely to feature a 1.5L turbo diesel engine along with a 2.2L turbo diesel engine. A 2.0L turbo petrol engine is also expected to be on offer.
