Toyota has commenced bookings of its flagship luxury SUV in India; To be sold as a CBU unit in LC300 trim; Booking open at a token amount of Rs 10 lakhs
After a long wait, Toyota India has decided to bring back its flagship SUV, the Land Cruiser LC300 into the company. A popular product in the international market, the SUV demands a waiting period of up to 4 years in some countries. Launched globally in 2021, the LC300 is reportedly open for booking at a token amount of Rs 10 lakh. Set to be sold as a CBU product, the launch and delivery timeline is highly speculative and can take more than a year.
In terms of design, the LC300’s will continue with the bulky design of the previous-gen LC200 model. The vehicle retains the boxy and upright stance with the familiar square-shaped LED headlamp with DRLs, a more prominent chrome grille, and reworked bumpers among other bits. Other exterior changes include pronounced wheel arches, new design alloy wheels and a sleeker LED tail lamps.
The interiors of the flagship model are set to be a huge step-up in terms of both design and equipment. The changes include a 12.3-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit with 14-speaker JBL audio system. Internationally, the LC300 is available with both 5 and 7-seater layouts; however, some media reports suggest that the India-spec model will only be available as a 5-seater.
Built on the new TNGA-F platform, the LC300 has skipped the V8 engine in the interest of a new more efficient options. Powering the Indian-spec model will be a 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel rated for 309 bhp and 700 Nm. The international model also comes powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol motor good enough for 415 bhp and 650 Nm of peak torque, but its arrival in the country is highly unlikely.
In terms of off-road dynamics, the LC300 is offered with four-wheel drive and differential locks as standard. Along with this, the SUV also gets a new electronic adaptive suspension, which lets the users play around with the damper settings as per the requirements. A new ‘Multi Terrain Select’ is also a part of the package along with the ‘Multi Terrain Monitor’ system which provides excellent under-belly visibility during tricky off-road situations.
The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 is expected to be priced around Rs. 2 crores (ex-showroom) in India. Once launched, it will rekindle its rivalry with the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes Benz G-Class.
