India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
In an interview with Autocar India, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility CCO Vivek Srivatsa stated that the Avinya will be a premium all-electric brand and feature Gen 3 EV architecture based on a born-electric skateboard platform. The first car from the upcoming new brand is scheduled for launch late next year.
“When it comes to placement, there will be some overlap with regular Tata EVs, but there is no hard ceiling for Tata Motors now, and no hard and fast price differentiation,” said Srivatsa, noting that the entire Avinya range will be positioned as a premium EV brand having varied sizes and body styles.
These electric four-wheelers would likely be manufactured at Tata’s Tamil Nadu plant, currently under construction, for which Rs. 9,000 crore has been earmarked. However, it was unclear if Avinya would be independent of the Nexon-maker.
Utilising JLR’s modular EMA architecture, Tata will be paying a royalty fee to the former while localising the platform to keep costs competitive. The same platform will underpin the future generations of Evoque, Discovery Sport and Velar SUVs.
