• BYD’s first electric SUV revealed for India • BYD ATTO 3 receives highest rating for both adult and child occupant safety. • Indian model to get all the safety features seen on the test car.
Just days after unveiling its first electric SUV for India, Chinese automaker, BYD has spread more good news with a full 5-start safety rating for ATTO 3 in Euro NCAP safety test. Testing was done on the base Active model of the ATTO 3 which comes with 7 airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, seat belt pretensioners and ADAS tech like autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and speed assist system. The model sold in India will also get all the safety features mentioned above.
The ATTO 3 was subjected to three types of impacts, front, lateral and rear. It received a 91 per cent rating, scoring 34.7 out of 38 points. In the tests, the EV offered good protection to the head and leg of all passengers while providing adequate protection in the remaining areas. The passenger compartment was rated as stable but, in the side pole lateral impact test, the driver’s chest protection was rated to be weak.
The ATTO 3 also scored the highest marks in child safety test by offering protection to all the critical body parts of the dummies in both the frontal-offset and the side barrier impact tests. The only weakness reported was the lack of ISOFIX anchorage in the rear middle seat and integrated child seat restraint system.
The ATTO 3 didn’t perform perfectly in pedestrian protection test, scoring 69% or 37.5 points out of 72 possible. While the bonnet provided adequate protection to the pedestrians, there were some problem areas marked as poor on the stiff windscreen pillars. The bumper offered good protection to the pedestrian’s legs but not the pelvic region, which was almost entirely poor.
