New Car Buying Platform
The Indian automobile sector saw a major upsurge in sales during the festival month of October 2024. The festive season prompted many consumers to buy new cars and about 15 car models have witnessed over 10,000-unit sales. Maruti Suzuki dominated the chart with nine models in the top 15 list. Let's look at which model has emerged as a leader and its sales tally.

The Ertiga is the best-selling car with a total of 18,785 units in October. This was 32% year on year and reflected its brilliant upkeep among Indian buyers. With a surge of about 1,300 units more than what was sold in September, Ertiga found itself at the top of the monthly sales chart.
Coming in at second place was the Maruti Swift, which sold 17,539 units. Though it saw a YoY decline of 15%, the car itself had an MoM increase of approximately 1,300 units, making it one of the bestsellers for the month. It stood at third with close to 17,500 units, with a YoY increase of 34%. The popular SUV also saw an MoM increase, thus proving Hyundai has a strong foothold in the SUV market.
The Maruti Brezza comes in at the fourth spot with 16,565 units, as it continues to grow by 3% YoY and MoM growth of more than 1,240 units. The Maruti Fronx is also selling very well with 16,419 units sold, indicating that the top 15 cars have achieved 45% YoY growth. This crossover has seen an 18.3% MoM increase, making it a favourite among customers pretty fast.
Maruti Baleno, though slipped by 3% YoY, remained at the top with 16,082 units. It has gone up MoM by over 1,700 units and is witnessing stable demand. The Tata Punch, on the other hand, stayed in the seventh position with 15,740 units. The numbers have risen MoM with 2,000 units. Total sales have risen YoY, making Punch a preferred bet for the buyer in the compact SUV segment.
Mahindra Scorpio was the sole model from Mahindra to sell more than 15,000 units in October at 15,677 units and a robust 15% YoY growth. Tata's Nexon was a close second, with sales of nearly 14,700 units and a very solid 28% MoM growth. Its YoY demand dipped marginally, however.
The Maruti Grand Vitara proved constant in the sales chart with 14,083 units for the month, which does include a YoY sale of 30% and MoM loss. Maruti Wagon R slipped to the 11th position selling 13,922 units. While there was almost a 37% YoY decline, there is, however, a slight improvement MoM.
The Maruti Dzire, the sole sedan in the tally, accounted for 12,698 units sold; however, its YoY sales fell by 14%. This model has demonstrated stable demand over the years, indicating the might that Maruti's sedan lineup possesses.
Maruti's MPV Eeco continued to show a steady performance with 11,653 units sold in October, though off by 2% MoM as well as 1% YoY. The Hyundai Venue is for the first time to enter the top 15 at 10,901 units. Mahindra managed more than 10,400 units for the XUV700, up by 12% YoY. Its inclusion underlines Mahindra's steadily growing appeal in the SUV space.
