Citroen is planning to launch its new offering, the Basalt in India. A direct competitor to Tata Curvv, the Basalt will have coupe SUV body styling, making it unique from the other Citroen cars available in the Indian market. The Basalt is likely to be launched in August 2024, during the same launch timeline as the Curvv coupe SUV.
Let’s talk more about the expected pricing and a variety of new features of Basalt:
Currently, Citroen has four models on sale in India including entry-level C3, C3 Aircross, eC3, and the premium C5 Aircross. The Basalt will sit above the C3 Aircross. Hence, the price of the new coupe SUV will be slightly more than that of the C3 Aircross.
The base variant of the C3 Aircross is priced at Rs 9.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.33 lakh. As for the Basalt's pricing, the French automaker could price the lower variant of Basalt at around Rs 11 lakh and Rs 16 lakh for the high-end model. (All prices are ex-showroom).
Positioned above the C3 Aircross, the upcoming Basalt will be launched as the premium offering in terms of interior layout and features. Although the Basalt is expected to adopt the interior layout of the C3 Aircross, it will yet come equipped with a range of modern tech features that the C3 Aircross lacks at the moment.
The coupe SUV is expected to get a 10.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, cruise control, electric folding mirrors, and more.
The new Basalt Coupe SUV will be based on the Common Modular Platform (CMP) that also underpins the C3, eC3, and the C3 Aircross. Besides, the coupe SUV is likely to use the same engine option available in the C3 Aircross. It includes a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit paired to both manual and automatic transmission. However, the state of tune can be higher for the Basalt.
