India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
Citroen’s upcoming offering in India, the Basalt coupe SUV’s partially covered production-ready avatar was spied again. Key exterior details including alloy wheels and illuminating units were revealed in the spy shots. Slated for launch this festive season, the upcoming car will be fifth in line after the C3, C3 Aircross, eC3 and C5 Aircross.
Its high-on-ground clearance frame with a sloping roofline gives it a sporty SUV stance, almost resembling the BMW X4. However, the vertical slat chrome nose lines housing the double arrow logo confirm it's a Citroen. Plastic cladding runs across the car’s circumference, preventing body scratches during off-road trails. The gun-metal alloy design slightly differs from the C3 Aircross’ and gets blacked-out ORVMs and shark-fin antenna.
Based on multiple media reports, Basalt will borrow C3’s 10.2-inch touchscreen and 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features will include a wireless charger, push button start/stop, keyless entry and automatic climate control.
Citroen is likely to offer its 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol mill as seen on the C3 Aircross. This engine belts out 110 bhp, while the torque output stands at 205 Nm. About the transmissions to come, it may be equipped with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
We anticipate the French carmaker to price the Basalt upwards of Rs. 11 lakh, ex-showroom, while the range-topping variant for Rs. 15 lakh. Its launch is likely before Diwali and it will rival the upcoming Tata Curvv SUV.
