India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
Many Indian customers prefer SUVs over any other body styling. However, the coupe-SUV styling is getting good traction from Indian customers. This body styling was earlier associated with premium cars from the likes of BMW, Porsche, Audi, etc; however, things have started to change. More mass-market car brands like Tata, Mahindra and Citroen are planning to introduce affordable coupe SUVs in India. While Tata Motors will introduce the Curvv SUV Coupe, Citroen will launch the Basalt concept-based SUV-Coupe in 2024. On the other hand, Mahindra will launch two new electric Coupe-SUVs like Mahindra XUV.e9 and Mahindra BE.05. Out of these four models, two SUV-Coupes - the Basalt and Curvv will be launched in our market during this festive season that is before Diwali.
Let's move further to find out what we can expect from these upcoming cars.
Citroen is preparing to launch a new Basalt Coupe SUV during the second half of this year. This will be a unique addition to the brand's lineup due to its distinctive sloping roofline and attractive styling.
Based on the Stellantis Common Modular Platform (CMP), the coupe SUV will be around 4.3 m in length. Under the hood, it will house the same engine offered in C3 Aircross - a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that can generate 109 bhp of power with 205 Nm of torque. Transmission jobs will be handled by a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The French automaker could price the upcoming Basalt at around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). The list of its competitors will include Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, and the upcoming Tata Curvv.
A direct rival to Citroen Basalt, the upcoming Tata Curvv will also make its official arrival in the coming months. The biggest highlight is not only its coupe-SUV body styling but also the range of powertrain choices it is going to offer.
Similar to the upcoming Basalt, the Curvv will also measure around 4.3 m in length. While the ICE version will be developed on the brand’s Alpha platform, the EV will use the Acti.ev architecture. The Acti.ev architecture debuted in the Punch EV and will also be used to develop the Harrier EV and the Sierra EV. The ICE-powered Currv will get a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine while the Curvv is likely to offer a range of up to 450-500 km on a single charge. As for the pricing, the Curvv is expected to be priced from Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
