The C3 was Citroen’s second product to be launched in the Indian market. At the time of its introduction, the hatchback was also pitched for other markets like Brazil. As a result, the car is being produced both in India and Brazil. Now according to the latest Latin NCAP Crash Test results, the four-wheeler has performed miserably. We take a closer look.
The Latin NCAP tested the Citroen C3 on four parameters - Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Pedestrian Protection, and Safety Assists. On all four counts, the C3 received a zero-star safety rating. It was reported that the vehicle had an unstable structure, lack of side head protection, weak frontal impact protection, and lack of seat belt reminders for passengers.
Further, the report stated that the C3 provided minimal protection to the driver and front passenger chest due to no seat belt pretensioners. The testing body also noted that the vehicle’s structure and the footwell area were unstable while the body shell is incapable of bearing further loadings. It did not test the C3 for the pole impact test as it does not offer any side head protection features.
Overall, Citroen C3 scored 30.52 percent in Adult Occupant Protection, 12.10 percent in Child Occupant Protection, 49.74 percent in Pedestrian Safety, 34.88 percent in Safety Assists and Features.
While there are certain differences between the Brazil-spec and India-spec Citroen C3, both models share the same platform and underpinnings. Additionally, the India-spec model too is offered with minimal safety features as standard. It, therefore, gets features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, high-speed alert, engine immobilizer, and rear parking sensors. Further, the top-end Turbo variant offers equipment like electronic stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a hill-hold assist.
In our country, the Citroen C3 prices start from Rs 6.60 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base Pure 82 Live variant extending all the way up to Rs 8.80 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-of-the-line Shine Dual Tone Turbo trim.
