• Jimny 5-door camouflage version spotted in Delhi NCR • Expected to be launched during the Delhi Auto Expo 2023 • To use the same K series petrol engine as Maruti Ciaz and Brezza
The Suzuki Jimny is one of the most affordable true bred 4x4s that is currently on sale in the international markets. As for India its 3-door launch was originally anticipated in 2019, but due to high production cost the idea of pushed for a later date. But the success of the Thar, has reignited the interest for Maruti Suzuki to develop an Indian specific Jimny 5-door. Expected to be launched during Delhi Auto Expo 2023, the Maruti Jimny has been spotted testing on a number of occasions in the past. This time around, fresh images of a camouflage version taken by Car Lelo indicates that its city testing is in full swing and the launch could be around the corner.

As you can see in these pictures, the Jimny is heavily cladded in camouflage. Its boxy exterior design remains a stand out point which would be liked by many SUV enthusiasts. In comparison to the 3-door version, the 5-Door Jimny seems to offer an extended wheelbase as visible in these images. This has been done so that 2 extra doors could be added to the package. Additionally, what it would also do is provide the occupants seated towards the rear with more legroom. From a practical point of view, the 5-door version makes more sense for a market like ours because it will offer more space both for the occupants and storage of luggage in the form of a decent size boot. To differentiate both SUV’s, the extended Jimny is expected to feature a single horizontal slat front grille instead of the five-slat vertical setup available with the 3-door version.

Specifications related to this version are yet unknown. However, what we can speculate is that it will use the same 1.5-litre petrol engine that does duty on the likes of the Maruti Ciaz and Brezza. The motor is expected to deliver a maximum power output of 103 bhp with 137 Nm of peak torque. Like seen on the Maruti Grand Vitara, Ertiga and XL, it would most likely feature mild-hybrid tech. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual alongside a 6-speed automatic.
Projected to be a hardcore SUV, the 5-Door Jimny is believed to come equipped with Suzuki’s ALL-Grip 4x4 system. Making it more than capable to take on any type of terrain, if rumours are to be believed the pricing of this vehicle could be on a higher side in comparison to other models in Maruti Suzuki’s product portfolio. The expected price of the Maruti Jimny 5-door should be in the range of Rs 12 – Rs 17 lakh in India. Once launched, it will take on the likes of Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha in its segment.
