Following the launch of the facelifted City, Honda India has confirmed to launch its new mid-size SUV in the country by mid-2023. Post launch of new City, the brand also revealed its future plans for the Indian market.
The first product to arrive in our shores will be the new mid-size SUV that was recently teased. The new model will sit alongside the City facelift as the flagship model for the auto manufacturer in India.
While not much is known about the SUV, we expect it to feature styling similar to the Honda HR-V currently on sale in the international market. The 4.2-metre-long car will come equipped with both the petrol and hybrid powertrain options along with the recently introduced Honda Sensing Technology as standard on top-end models.

The Japanese automaker expects to sell more vehicles in the Indian market in 2024 than its rivals with the launch of the city facelift and the new mid-size SUV. The latter will go on sale by July-September this year.
Honda currently offers the Amaze, City, WR-V and Jazz in India, with the first two accounting for almost 60% of the total sales. However, a lack of a popular SUV has affected the brand adversely over the last few years. The brand expects the new mid-size SUV is the missing key to stop the sales slump.
Ahead of the mid-size SUV’s launch, Honda is also investing Rs 260 crores in its customer interface of its showroom, which will be rolled out later this year.
Honda Car India president and CEO Takuya Tsukuba recently stated that the company is planning to grow faster than last year with the new launches. The automaker’s manufacturing plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan is also going to increase its daily production limit from 540 vehicles to 660 vehicles. This will start from April 2023 when Honda is closer to launching the new SUV.
