Hyundai Motor India is one of the automakers that will have a major presence at the Delhi Auto Expo 2023. The brand will showcase a number of existing and new models, as well as a few concept cars.
While the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be one of the centerpieces, if reports are to be believed then the South Korean brand will also bring the recently revealed Ioniq 6 electric sedan to the Expo.
The Ioniq 6 is the third pure electric offering from Hyundai globally, the other being the Kona Electric and the Ioniq 5. The new EV was globally unveiled in June 2022, with the production model retaining most of the Hyundai Prophecy Concept’s design elements.
It is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP skateboard architecture, which also underpins the Kia EV6, allowing for multiple battery pack sizes, a flat floor, and rear or all-wheel drive.
Hyundai Ioniq 6 features multiple sharp creases and long curves for an aerodynamic design. In fact, the electric sedan has a drag coefficient of just 0.21. This is helped by the flush-fitting door handles and cameras instead of wing mirrors. The rear end gets Hyundai’s pixel-style LED tail lights and a ducktail spoiler.
Moving to the inside, the electric vehicle gets a flat centre console similar to the other electric offerings from the brand. The dashboard offers a pair of 12-inch displays for the instrument console and the touchscreen. Physical buttons are kept to a minimum, giving the interior a minimalistic look.
The Ioniq 6 will be offered with two battery pack options, a 53-kWh unit and a 77-kWh unit. Higher variants will be getting a dual motor setup that pumps out 320 bhp and 605 Nm of peak torque while a single motor with 228 bhp and 350 Nm will be the standard option.
Hyundai claims a WLTP certified range of 429 kms for the RWD 53 kWh model and 614 kms for the powertrain but with the bigger 77.4 kWh battery pack. The AWD model of the Ioniq 6 has a claimed range of 583 kms.
The First-Generation Hyundai Kona EV is currently on sale in India, which will likely be replaced by the recently unveiled all new-generation model. The Ioniq 5 will be the brand’s second electric offering in the country upon its launch in January 2023.
The company has not announced a launch plan for the Ioniq 6 in India yet, and the electric sedan’s showcase at the 2023 Auto Expo will serve as a consumer interest gauge.
