India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
Hyundai Motor India Limited has officially announced the name of its upcoming micro SUV on social media. Expected to be called the Exter, the new model is expected to go on sale in the country by mid-2023.
According to the company’s communication, the name 'Exter' symbolises the natural world; it reflects an identity that is focused on travel, the outdoors, and leisure.
Codenamed Ai3, the upcoming Exter will be based on Hyundai's K1 platform which underpins the recently launched Grand i10 Nios as well. Unlike the hatchback, the upcoming micro SUV will draw design cues from the Casper sold abroad but will have its own unique identity.
Although it would be an entry-level SUV, we can expect this car to be feature-rich just like other Hyundai models that we see in the country.
The South Korean brand has not revealed the engine details yet. However, the small SUV is likely to come equipped with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit that can generate 82 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. Transmission options could include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Considering the Exter’s market positioning, we can expect the model to get the more powerful 1.0-litre T-GDi turbo petrol engine.
Hyundai Exter will be the small SUV from the brand in the Indian market. At present, the brand's SUV portfolio includes Creta, Kona EV, Venue, Ioniq 5, Alcazar, and Tucson. The Exter is expected to be priced from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete against the Nissan Magnite, Tata Punch, and Citroen C3.
