Tata Motors has unveiled the much-awaited Harrier EV, an electric variant of its best-selling Harrier SUV. The vehicle was unveiled at the company's manufacturing facility in Pune, where it wowed visitors with its performance, particularly its all-wheel-drive (AWD) capabilities. The Harrier EV promises to pack a lot of intelligent features, which will make it an interesting addition to Tata's expanding electric vehicle portfolio.
One of the important feature of the Tata Harrier EV is that it will have an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup. The AWD technology provides improved traction and stability and enables it to handle city roads as well as rough terrain. There is a motor at both axles powering the AWD setup for stable and smooth driving on poor roads. It will provide a smoother and controlled ride under poor road conditions.
The Harrier EV also gets a multi-link rear suspension, which improves handling, stability, and comfort compared to the Harrier's torsion beam rear suspension. The new suspension system minimizes vibrations and irons out road bumps to deliver a smoother ride to the occupants.
The cabin of the Harrier EV will be packed with clever features to help improve driving. It takes the luxury quotient of the standard Harrier to new heights with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital driver's display. The screens will be similar to what was seen on the ICE model but with EV-related graphics.
The cabin receives a panoramic sunroof, electronic park brake, and rotary dial with colour display. A two-tone finish for the dashboard, meanwhile, is received by the car along with a touch-controlled dual-zone AC control panel. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, smartphone wireless charging, and a JBL premium sound system are some of the features to be included.
The Harrier EV will be featuring advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) including lane departure warning, 360-degree camera, parking sensors, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The car will also come with safety features including 7 airbags and ISOFIX child seat fixings.
One of the top selling features of the Tata Harrier EV will be that it supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging. That is where the car can actually be used to charge other electric cars or even devices, making it a highly practical and desirable one-stop electric solution.
Although the exterior look of the Harrier EV resembles the ICE model very closely, it is not quite the same. The grille has been reworked and blanked-off with horizontal slats similar to the Tata Curvv EV. The front bumper too has been reworked and new alloy wheels with an aerodynamically designed theme have been added. There is even "EV" badging on the front doors to differentiate the car from the base Harrier.
In the back, the greeting and farewell animations employed LED taillights, and a new rear bumper whose styling is similar to that of the front grille.
Tata Motors has officially declared that the Harrier EV will feature a huge battery pack, and its full-charge range is over 500 km, as Tata itself prides on its own test range cycle. The Harrier EV thus has a valid case to present to anyone seeking an electric vehicle with range capabilities.
The Tata Harrier EV expected to have a price tag between Rs. 25 lakh - Rs. 30 lakh (ex-showroom), and hence it will be a formidable force in the electric SUV market. It will compete with other electric vehicles like the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, and the yet-to-be-launched Maruti e Vitara.
