Hyundai to Extend ADAS Features to All SUV Models by 2025

Hyundai Cars has announced that it will be adding active safety tech features like ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) and Bluelink to every model in its India lineup by 2025. This follows the brand’s initiative of adding more and more safety features to its models. Recently, Hyundai updated its entire lineup to have six airbags as standard.

Hyundai: Strategy of increasing safety features

The South Korean automaker’s new safety initiative is based on a 3-pillar strategy that includes ADAS, key features like VSM, Hill-Start Assist, and ESC, and the addition of vital safety features as standard on all models. Hyundai has claimed that these features have been “extremely effective in preventing accidents”. The brand currently offers 5 models in India with ADAS and expects to increase this to 60% of its portfolio by the end of 2024.

Tarun Garg, COO of Hyundai, said, “Hyundai is the first mass OEM to offer ADAS in a sub-4m SUV – the Hyundai Venue – thereby making it India's most affordable SUV equipped with ADAS. This is clearly a big leap towards the democratisation of advanced safety features. We aim for 100 percent coverage across the line-up,”. He also added that Hyundai was the first mass automaker to introduce Bluelink-connected car tech in 2019, offering safety features like engine immobilisation and stolen vehicle tracking, SOS and emergency assistance, and geo-fencing. Currently, 80% of Hyundai’s India range is offered with Bluelink as an option, with the brand aiming to make it 100% in the near future.

Mr Garg stated that India is the world’s second-largest road network, with national highways increasing to 1.45 lakh km in the last 8 years. Meanwhile, the number of vehicles on the road has also increased massively by 65%, with top speed on a few expressways now at par with global standards. He said that updating the safety features in vehicles should also keep up with this increase in numbers.

Hyundai: More standard safety features

As a part of its initiative to add advanced safety features to all of its models, Hyundai is planning to also expand the application of new technologies like blind spot detection, surround view monitor, electronic parking brake, and front parking sensors across its portfolio.

Hyundai already offers features like a rear camera, three-point seat belts, seat belt reminder, and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System as available across all models, while ISOFIX child seat mounts are also offered across the range as an option.

The automaker has also submitted three of its models for BNCAP crash testing, with the results expected to be released soon.
