Upcoming KIA EV6 was spied for the first in India. Here are ‘Top 5 Things to Know’ about this all-electric vehicle.
First images of KIA EV6 on public roads have hit the internet. The uncovered car was spotted on the streets of Hyderabad doing testing runs. The electric crossover SUV is expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2022, but no official confirmation on behalf of the Korean automaker.
The first EV from the KIA promises a lot within a tight package. Here are ‘5 Things to Know’ about KIA EV6.
KIA EV6 Design: The EV6 will be the first product from the automaker to debut its new 'Opposites United' design philosophy. EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are the first products to offer the group's dedicated E-GMP EV platform. The EV6 front end is characterised by sleek DRLs which are a part of the Digital Tiger Face, the Tiger Nose Grille for the electric era. The side view of the electric SUV reveals a distinctive crossover inspired silhouette with a contrast of sharp lines and high-tech details.
KIA EV6 Interiors and features: Like the exterior, the interior of the EV6 features a bold and sophisticated layout. The most striking visual part of the cabin is the seamless high-tech curved high-definition audio-visual and navigation (AVN) screen. The 12.3-inch screen and the slim dashboard add a sense of space and an open feel; this is further enhanced by the dedicated E-GMP platform's increased interior space.
Like most KIA models, the EV6 will come equipped with a 14-speaker premium sound system. KIA has replaced most of the physical buttons on the inside with haptic surfaces. The dashboard design slopes away towards the front of the vehicle, creating a sense of space and openness for the front seat passengers. The slim, lightweight seats are created using recycled plastics, making them modern and visually appealing.
KIA EV6 Safety: The international model of the EV6, which has been on sale since 2021, comes equipped with the full suite of KIA Driver Assist Technology. The electric vehicle comes fitted with Highway Driving Assist, Blind-Spot Detection Technology, Auto Emergency Braking Technology with Junction Turning and Cyclist Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Safe Exit Assist, Navi-based Smart Cruise Control among many others. KIA also provides dual front airbags, dual front side airbags, driver-side knee airbags and full-length curtain airbags for added safety.
KIA V6 Powertrain and Performance: Internationally, the EV6 comes equipped with two battery packs. They offer a variety of setups. The entry level light variant comes equipped with a 58 kWh battery pack paired to a single motor that drives the rear wheels. This setup produces a power output of 167 bhp with 350 Nm torque. Its electric range is said to be 370 kms. The other two variants (Wind and GT-Line) offer a 77.4 kWh battery mated to either a single motor (RWD) or dual motor (AWD) setup. The RWD variants produce a maximum power output of 225 bhp and 350 Nm of torque and promises a range of up to 500 kms. The AWD variants have a higher power of 320 bhp and 600 Nm but offer a lower 440 kms of EV range. All variants provide an ultra-fast DC charging technology that juices up the EV from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. Despite its large footprint, the EV6 can complete the 0-100 kmph sprint in under 5 seconds.
KIA EV6 Pricing and Competition: KIA is bringing the EV6 to India via the CBU route. The high taxes on the unit will drive the prices north of Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the electric crossover will be in its own segment along with its sibling the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
