SUV segment aggressively growing in the Indian market. Among them Kia Syros, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Hyundai Creta are very popular these days. Every car has its features, the choice of engine, and the design that appeals to one. You should know them well before making a decision. Let's compare them in detail to guide you in choosing the best according to your needs.
The Kia Syros will come in two power sources. There is the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit, which delivers 118 bhp and 172 Nm torque. Then there is the 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out 114 bhp and 250 Nm torque. Both units will get a 6-speed manual transmission. The turbo-petrol model come with an additional option of a 7-speed dual-clutch unit, while only 1.5-litre diesel gets a 6-speed automatic.
Maruti Grand Vitara is available in two variants: 1.5-litre petrol, and 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle hybrid engine. The petrol engine produces 102 bhp and 138 Nm of torque. The hybrid engine produces fantastic power from the generation of 114 bhp and 141 Nm of torque. This model is available with both a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The hybrid comes attached with an e-CVT gearbox for smoother drive.
The Hyundai Creta comes in three variants of engines. The base is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, with 113 bhp and 144 Nm of torque. The more powerful experience comes with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that delivers 157 bhp and 253 Nm. The third option is the 1.5-litre diesel engine, with 114 bhp and 250 Nm. Transmission options are available as a 6-speed manual, CVT, and 7-speed DCT for the turbo-petrol and diesel engines.
Kia Syros is a compact car with a length of 3,995 mm, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,665 mm in height. The wheelbase of the car measures 2,550 mm, and there is enough space inside it. Large luggage bags and bulky equipment can be accommodated in this car for family outings with a total capacity of 465-litres.
The Grand Vitara is longer at 4,345 mm, narrower at 1,795 mm, and lower by 1,645 mm in height. It has a great interior space due to the 2,600mm wheelbase. The boot space is 373-litres and smaller than the Kia Syros but is sufficient for daily use.
The Hyundai Creta measures long at 4,330 mm, wide at 1,790 mm, and tall at 1,635 mm. That's quite huge to provide adequate cabin room with an even more lengthy wheelbase of 2,610 mm. The boot space is pegged at 433-litres. Of course, though larger, its boot is smaller compared to that of the Kia Syros.
Kia Syros is bold and highly modernly styled. The chiseled bonnet comes with sleek LED headlights accompanied by DRLs and impressive L-shaped LED taillights. It boasts a two-tone 17-inch alloy wheel set that makes an impressive statement, and its flush-fitting door handles make it clean and futuristic in style. Faux skid plates render it ruggedly as a shape of an SUV.
Grand Vitara follows the premium design, with its huge chrome grille and split headlamp setup. Sharp LED DRLs running on its body and a strong shoulder line further add a lot of grace to the vehicle. For better mobility, 17-inch precision-cut alloy wheels are present. The curvaceous tailgate also houses the LED tail lamps running along the width of the car. Skid plates added give it the tough yet refined look.
Hyundai Creta comes with a very stylish, sexy black chrome grille and minimalist design quad-beam LED headlights. It gets illuminated by the clean, minimalistic design by LED sequential indications, connecting LED taillamp, and 17-inch diamond-cut alloys. Yet, that is among the best designs Hyundai can produce in its class.
Inside, the Kia Syros is blessed with a futuristic cabin and accommodates a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system matched with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The high-grade material treatment to its interior further includes a 5-inch climate control display along with an 8-speaker premium Harman Kardon sound system. Features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front and rear seats, wireless phone charging, and 64-colour ambient lighting make the Kia Syros even more comfortable and convenient.
Maruti Grand Vitara comes with an all-black theme along with champagne gold accents in the interiors. It also comes along with a highly advanced 9-inch infotainment system along with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Some of its features include digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, HUD, ventilated seats. The drive is supported by paddle shifters and cruise control.
Hyundai Creta features a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car is just so cozy in the cabin and offers such comforts like a wireless charging pad, voice-enabled smart panoramic sunroof, auto healthy air purifier, ventilated front seats, ambient blue lighting, cruise control, and electric parking brake.
The Kia Syros has featured safety aspects like six airbags, ESC, and 360-degree camera. More protection to the car has been given through Level 2 ADAS system, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and dual dashcam. Some equipment include front parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat anchorages.
The Grand Vitara has six airbags, ABS with EBD and all-wheel disc brakes. For any age group, ISOFIX child seat mounts, rear camera, and rear parking sensors mean it is ready for action. ESP (Electronic Stability Program), hill-hold assist, and tyre pressure monitoring system add an additional layer of safety.
Hyundai Creta provides a maximum amount of protection because it arms it with six airbags, ABS with EBD, and ESC. It is further loaded with Hill Start Assist Control and the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The higher variants even enjoy adaptive cruise control, Level 2 ADAS and automatic emergency braking. All that make it go to max in its safety.
The Kia Syros is expected to priced at Rs. 9 lakh ex-showroom. It can compete with Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Creta, and Maruti Grand Vitara.
The petrol variants of Maruti Grand Vitara start at Rs. 10.99 lakh and reach as high as Rs. 20.99 lakh for the top-tier hybrid variant is available. The CNG variants start at Rs. 13.15 lakh. It is competing with Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and Toyota Hyryder.
Hyundai Creta is priced between Rs 10.9 lakh to Rs 20.14 lakh. It has direct rivalary with Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder and Skoda Kushaq.
New-Gen Toyota Fortuner is expected to debut in India in 2025, possibly in the second quarter.
