2022 Land Rover Defender 130 breaks cover; Measures more than 5.3 meters in length and offers seating for 8; Will be the flagship product of the Defender line-up
Land Rover has globally unveiled the Defender 130 offering seating for 8 people. The flagship model of the Defender line-up measures 5.3 metres in length and gets stadium-style seating with a 2+3+3 configuration. The SUV offers a unique combination of practicality and strong off-roading capabilities coupled with premium upmarket interiors.
In terms of design, the new SUV looks almost identical to the Defender 110, except for the 340mm increase in length, courtesy its larger overhangs. Despite the growth in size, the four-wheeler maintains its boxy style and the wheelbase of 3022 mm. Other exterior highlights of the new model include black roof rails, 20-inch alloy wheels and an exclusive Sedona Red colour along with an optional extended bright pack, which adds satin silver detailing around the bonnet and lower body panels.
One of the biggest updates to the Defender 130’s cabin is the new seating layout. The extension in length helps increase the boot space of the vehicle to 1232 litres with the last row folded down. Other highlights of the interiors include four-zone climate control unit and 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit powered by latest Pivi Pro software.
The Defender 130 is offered with two petrol and one diesel engine option with a mild hybrid system. The entry-level P300 is powered by a straight-six petrol motor producing 300 bhp and 470 Nm of peak torque, while the P400 is rated for a maximum power output of 400 bhp and peak torque of 550 Nm. The diesel D300 churns out 300 bhp and a colossal 650 Nm of torque. All engine options are paired to a common ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.
As far as off-roading is concerned, 130 gets an air suspension and Land Rover Terrain Response System as standard. The SUV offers 37.5 degrees of approach angle and 28.5 degrees of departure angle.
The Land Rover Defender 130 is offered in 5 trim levels namely HSE, X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE, X and Limited First Edition. The SUV is expected to hit Indian shores in the near future, although there is no confirmation from the SUV maker’s end. Once launched, the Defender 130 will take on the likes of Toyota Land Cruiser and Mercedes Benz G-Class.
