The homegrown automaker, Mahindra is all set to introduce the much-anticipated BE 6e and XEV 9e electric SUV Coupes in India on November 26, 2024. It was speculated that the production versions of XUV.e9 and BE.05 will make public debut in production avatar at the biennial event; however, media reports suggest that the company will eventually reveal the prices of both SUVs on November 26 itself.
Out of these two EVs, the Mahindra BE 6e will be more in demand as it will be positioned against the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Suzuki e Vitara. The new electric SUVs are designed and developed on Mahindra's new born-electric INGLO architecture, which is versatile enough to accommodate different drivetrains and body-styles.
Mahindra would aim to price the new electric SUV Coupe competitive with higher level of localization levels. It will be positioned above the XUV400, which costs around Rs 15.49 lakh and Rs 19.39 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect the new BE 6e price will be in-line with the MG ZS EV and the BYD Atto 3. The Mahindra BE 6e will most likely to cost somewhere between Rs 17 lakh and Rs 24 lakh (ex-showroom).
The electric SUV will be based on Mahindra's scalable and modular born-EV INGLO platform. It will come with two LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries - 59kWh and 79kWh. The electric SUV Coupe will have a rear-axle-mounted electric motor, which company calls a 'compact three-in-one powertrain' comprise of a motor, an inverter and the transmission.
The outputs for the motor range between 231hp and 286hp, depending on the application. If rumours are to be believed, the Mahindra BE 6e could also receive a dual-motor AWD set-up, which will offer higher combined power and torque output. The electric SUV Coupe also supports fast charging, as the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 20 mins using 175kW DC fast charger. The electric SUV will offer drive modes, a semi-active suspension setup and brake-by-wire technology.
