New Car Buying Platform
Mahindra is likely to enter the micro SUV segment by launching an all-new model in the coming years. Not just a micro SUV, Mahindra is also looking at a mid-sized SUV category to fill the void between the XUV 3XO and the XUV700. Recently, the automaker has registered multiple trademarks - 1XO, 3XO, 5XO, and 7XO. The XUV 3XO has been launched as a facelift model of the XUV300, the 7XO could be the name of the XUV700 facelift. The Mahindra 1XO and 5XO could be strong rivals to Tata Punch and Hyundai Creta, respectively.
In March 2024, Mahindra filed a trademark for XUV 1XO which could be launched in the future as a micro SUV. This micro SUV, XUV 1XO is most likely to sit below the recently-launched XUV 3XO, a sub 4m SUV. The new model is expected to be based on the existing Mahindra ICE platform, which was earlier used for the KUV100. It could be a replacement for the KUV100 that has been discontinued in our market; however, it is still on sale in South Africa. The new XUV 1XO is likely to rival the Tata Punch and the Hyundai Exter.
Another trademark filed by Mahindra was the XUV 5XO moniker. It could be introduced in the market as a mid-sized SUV. Upon launch, it is likely to sit between the sub-4m XUV 3XO and the midsize SUV, XUV700.
Previously, Mahindra had an XUV500 midsize SUV in its portfolio which was discontinued in 2021 and replaced by XUV700. However, the automaker has plans to bring a new 5XO compact SUV that could compete with Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara compact SUVs.
In terms of features, the XUV 5XO is likely to come equipped with a connected screen for infotainment and a driver’s display. The same is expected to be shared with the XUV700. The new model will also receive some high-end comfort and convenience features along with safety tech. Similar to the new 3XO, the XUV 5XO is expected to receive Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, a digital driver’s display, a powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats and many more. The SUV is likely to be offered with a 1.5L turbo diesel and a 1.5L mStallion turbo petrol engine that debuted at the 2020 Auto Expo.
