The launch of Mahindra Thar Roxx is just around the corner. Ahead of its arrival on August 15, the most important details regarding its engine, off-road capability, and new platform have been revealed. Launch is slated for this Independence Day (August 15). Get more details!
Positioned below Scorpio N, the Thar Roxx will be based on the new 4G platform. This platform is derived from the Scorpio N's 3G platform. Using this architecture will make the 5-door Thar 40 kg lighter than the 3G platform.
It was already in everyone's mind that the upcoming Thar Roxx would be powered by the same engines offered in Mahindra Scorpio N. The recent information has confirmed its engine options and power based on the variants.
The entry-level trim will get a 2.0-litre petrol engine offering 160 bhp and 330 Nm of torque while the top-spec model's petrol unit can produce 175 bhp and 380 Nm.
The Gen 2 mHawk 2.2-litre diesel engine offered in the lower spec model can generate 150 bhp of power with 350 Nm while the high-end diesel trim can deliver 172 bhp and 370 Nm of torque.
Both engines will get a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox choices. The entry-level trim is expected to get RWD only while mid-spec to top-spec variants could get 4x4 capability. Only the high-end model will get a fancy electronically locking diff feature.
Apart from Scorpio N's engines, the upcoming off-roader will share some components with it including multi-link rear suspension, featuring the frequency Dependent Damping tech. Other off-roading features comprise an electronic locking diff, electronic brake locking diff, traditional mechanical 4x4 lever, and 3 terrain modes - Snow, Mud, and Sand.
Another highlight is the Crawl Smart Assist system which enables the driver to set a speed between 2.5 kmph and 30 kmph during off-roading. This system could be offered in the automatic variants only. The Thar Roxx will also get all four disc brakes, increased use of high-strength steel, an all-metal body shell, and a robust full-metal hard top.
Besides that, the Intelli Turn Assist feature can help the driver to take tighter turns just by locking the inner wheel under 15 kmpl speed. However, the electronic locking differential must be disengaged to engage the Intelli Turn Assist feature.
