India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
A showcase event for the Mahindra Thar Roxx is being held in Kochi, Kerala, in which automotive journalists have been invited from all over the country. Mahindra took everyone by surprise by launching the car today, as its launch was anticipated tomorrow. The base MX1 petrol costs Rs. 12.99 lakh, ex-showroom.
Up front, the five-door Thar boasts a redesigned look comprising C-shaped LED DRLs and a six-slat grille. Mahindra has heard Thar buyers’ outcry for stronger headlights and has given the SUV a projector pair this time. The front camera has been placed in the nose’s centre but the Twin Peaks logo is absent. As seen in spy shots earlier, it gets an independent double wishbone suspension setup for enhanced off-road capability borrowed from the Scorpio N. And finally, ADAS has marked its debut in the ‘Thar’ nameplate with the Roxx.
The homegrown automobile manufacturer has revamped the Thar’s cabin with features including a touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display measuring 10.25-inch each, wireless charging and a panoramic sunroof. A 360-degree camera has also been installed for better manoeuvrability. the lifestyle SUV will have multiple terrain modes including snow, sand and mud. We expect it to score better in crash tests than its three-door iteration as has been the case with its latest line of SUVs.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx has a body-on-frame architecture for enhanced off-roading capabilities. Further, ABS with EBD complement the safety aspect. The suspension system which consists of independent coil suspensions (front) and a multi-link coil suspension (rear) is aimed at improving the comfort of a ride and at the same time, off-road capability. The SUV boasts 255/65 all-terrain tyres which are further bolstered by the 18-inch alloy wheels.

The Thar five-door will get two engine options - turbo petrol and diesel. The 2-litre mStallion (turbo petrol) and 2.2-litre mHawk (diesel) mills are borrowed from the Scorpio N in a similar state of tune, while only the latter is paired to a 4x4 setup. Both the units are paired to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The electronically locking differential is reserved for the range-topping Thar Roxx.
