As compared to the three-door Thar, the Thar Roxx boasts a redesigned look comprising C-shaped LED DRLs and a six-slat grille. Mahindra has equipped it with LED headlights instead of halogens. The camera at the front has been placed in the nose’s centre but the Twin Peaks logo is absent. It also gets an independent double wishbone suspension setup for enhanced off-road capability borrowed from the Scorpio N. And finally, ADAS (Level 2) has marked its debut in the ‘Thar’ nameplate with the Roxx. Owing to its larger wheelbase, space in the second row and boot has increased.
Inside, there are two digital displays - touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display - measuring 10.25-inch each. Then the list goes on to include a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, adjustable headrests for all five passengers, six-way adjustable driver’s seat and a panoramic sunroof. Seats at the back also get a recline function. The seat comfort has also been worked upon and ventilated seats have been offered for the first time. The sound department is handled by a 9-speaker Harman Kardon setup.
Safety is taken care of by Level 2 advanced driver’s assistance systems (ADAS), electronic stability control (ESC) and ABS with EBD. Further, it also gets hill hold/descent assist, hydraulic brake assist, traction control system and brake disc wiping for consistent braking performance. However, crash testing is yet to be done for the SUV.
Mahindra has borrowed 2-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel powerplants from the Scorpio N. However, the power (150-174 bhp | 330-380 Nm) and torque (150-172.45 bhp | 330-370 Nm) figures of the former and latter have been watered down to avoid cannibalisation. Both mills can be paired with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, while the 4x4 system will be offered only with the diesel.
