The long-awaited Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-door lifestyle SUV will finally make its global debut on August 15, 2024. It will come as a more practical model compared to the 3-door model. While official bookings are yet to commence, select dealers have already started accepting pre-orders for the lifestyle SUV.
The current-gen 3-door Thar is manufactured at Mahindra's Chakan-based manufacturing unit. In fact, the upcoming Thar Roxx will also be manufactured at the same assembly line. It is no brainer that Mahindra Thar Roxx will lead to cannibalization and could impact the sales of the Scorpio N and the 3-door Thar.
Dealers have been receiving great interest for the upcoming Thar 5-door from prospective customers. Seeing the high interest, Mahindra has already increased the production capacity at its Chakan based plant. The company aims to produce around 5000 to 6000 units a month, which translates into an annual production close to 70,000 units for the Thar Roxx.
The Thar 5-door will come as a premium alternative to the likes of the 3-door Thar and the Force Gurkha. Going by the history of Mahindra, it is certain that the lifestyle SUV will come at an aggressive introductory price. The model could undercut the prices of the Scorpio Classic and the Scorpio N, priced at Rs 13.61 lakh and Rs 13.85 lakh, respectively.
We expect the new model to cost around Rs 1.5 lakh more than the 3-door Thar. The Mahindra Thar Roxx is likely to be priced in the range of Rs 13.5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.
The new Thar Roxx will be offered in 3 engine options - a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel, a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder turbo diesel and 2.0-litre turbo petrol. The larger two units are expected to be shared with the Scorpio N. Moreover, the SUV will have 4x4 drivetrain as standard; however, the 1.5L turbo diesel engine will be offered with RWD drivetrain. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
