Maruti Suzuki has confirmed its plan to introduce ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technology across its model lineup in India. This announcement was made during a technology meeting held by Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan in July 2024. The carmaker also revealed that its ADAS suite, currently in the testing phase, will be specifically tuned for Indian road conditions.
The recent sighting of the Maruti Swift Hybrid further hints that the hatchback is being used to fine-tune the ADAS suite. Earlier, a test mule of the fourth-generation Swift was spotted with radar and a blind spot monitoring system before its market launch. However, the carmaker chose to skip this feature in the production-ready Swift. Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki’s flagship model, the Invicto, also misses out on ADAS, even though the Toyota Innova Hycross, on which it is based, comes equipped with this advanced safety suite.
The upcoming Maruti e-Vitara electric SUV could be the brand’s first model to feature ADAS technology. There is a strong possibility that the Grand Vitara and the upcoming 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara will also come equipped with ADAS. While more information is likely to be revealed in the near future, models such as the Swift, Baleno, Dzire, Fronx, and Brezza are expected to benefit from this technology.
Just so you know, the Made-in-India Maruti Fronx is already exported to Japan with ADAS, along with Suzuki’s AllGrip Select AWD system.
The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is an active safety technology designed to detect obstacles around the vehicle and process this information accurately in a computer system to provide appropriate feedback to the driver. This system comprises radars, sensors, and cameras to monitor the vehicle's surroundings.
An ADAS suite typically includes safety features such as emergency braking, pedestrian detection, collision avoidance, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, cross-traffic alert, parking assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, and rear collision warning.
