Tata Motors is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the domestic market. The company will launch two new cars, the Altroz facelift and Harrier EV, in the next two weeks. Adding to it, the long-awaited Tata Sierra will be launched in the country in FY2026. Tata Motors has also confirmed that the petrol derivatives of the Safari and Harrier SUVs will be launched in FY2026.
Not just the Harrier and Safari, the upcoming Tata Sierra will also come with petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine in question is Tata’s new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine that debuted at the 2024 Delhi Alto Expo. The company had also revealed the 1.2L turbo petrol engine that currently powers the Tata Curvv SUV Coupe.
The new 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol engine is capable of producing 170PS and 280Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission). The 1.2L 3-cylinder turbo unit is also available with 6MT and 7DCT.
This is the biggest update for the Harrier and Safari since their last update in 2023. Both SUVs could also receive new features from the soon-to-be-launched Tata Harrier EV. The electric SUV is scheduled to be launched on June 3, 2025.
Tata Motors has also confirmed that the Sierra EV will arrive before the ICE version. It is likely to share the battery specifications with the Harrier EV. The SUV is expected to come with two battery choices - a 60kWh with FWD set-up and a 75kWh with an AWD system. The AWD version will come with a dual-motor setup, and is expected to offer a range of over 500km in a single charge.
