• Expected to be offered with manual variants • CNG variants expected to cost around Rs 75,000 more than their petrol counterparts • Likely to be the powered by the same 1.5-litre unit as the Ertiga CNG
Maruti Suzuki is planning to offer a CNG version of the Brezza, making it the first SUV in India to be offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit. This will also be the first time since its launch that it will get two fuel options. The Brezza was initially launched as a diesel-only model, switching to petrol power only in 2020.
While Maruti is yet to officially confirm details about the Brezza CNG, reports suggest that the launch of the automaker’s first CNG SUV is round the corner. A spy image has leaked the expected CNG variants of the Brezza, suggesting at a CNG powered automatic variant. After its exit from the diesel market in 2020, Maruti has been using extensive marketing to push prospective diesel vehicle buyers to purchase CNG models instead.
According to the leaked details on the internet, the Maruti Brezza CNG will be powered by the same 1.5-litre K15C Dual-Jet engine that currently does duty in the Ertiga CNG. Compared to the petrol-powered models 100 bhp, the Brezza CNG will have around 87 bhp of peak power.
Prices for the Maruti Brezza petrol currently range between Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 12.30 lakh (ex-showroom). The CNG models will most likely cost around Rs 75,000 more.
Interestingly, it is the pricing of the Brezza CNG automatic variants that could put Maruti in a fix. Prices of petrol-powered models with auto transmission range between Rs 10.97 lakh – Rs 13.80 lakh. With the CNG kit on the top model, it will set you back around Rs 14.55 lakh (estimated). Compared to this, prices for the Toyota Hyryder strong-hybrid, which is based on the bigger Maruti Grand Vitara, start from Rs 15.11 lakh.
Do note that all prices mentioned are ex-showroom only.
