First unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Fronx has proven to be an instantly popular model for the auto giant. The newest Maruti Suzuki model has amassed over 15,000 bookings in the 3 months since its unveiling. And now just ahead of its launch, the internet has got hold of the fuel economy numbers of the new Fronx. Going by the ARAI-claimed figures, the new crossover SUV is more fuel efficient than the likes of the Tata Punch and the larger Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
The leaked image revealed that the Fronx’s 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine paired with 5-speed AMT gearbox returns an ARAI-claimed figure of 22.89 kmpl. While the same motor mated to the manual gearbox has an claimed mileage of 21.79 kmpl. In comparison, the more powerful 1-litre BoosterJet petrol motor has an ARAI-claimed fuel economy figure of 21.5 kmpl when paired to the manual transmission or 20.01 kmpl when mated to the automatic gearbox.
The Fronx is an all-new crossover SUV that is based on the Maruti Baleno. However, the design of the upcoming SUV has very few similarities with the premium hatchback. The Fronx features a split headlight and LED DRL setup that flank the large grille while the angular front bumper gets a faux skid plate.
Move to the side and you will notice the flared wheel arches and chunky black body cladding that add to the SUV’s appeal. At the rear, the Fronx gets a spoiler and LED taillights that are connected by a full width lightbar. The rear bumper gets a faux skid plate as well.
As mentioned above, the Fronx will be offered with two petrol engine options. This includes a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated Dual Jet, Dual VVT motor that makes 90 bhp with 113 Nm of peak torque. It also features mild-hybrid tech. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
The other option is the return of the famed 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo-petrol motor that churns out 100 bhp with 148 Nm of torque. Like the NA engine, this unit also get mild hybrid tech that torque assist during acceleration and regenerative. This system will come mated to either a It 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The Fronx is the only Maruti vehicle to be offered with a turbocharged engine.
