Maruti Suzuki has just issued a recall of the Alto K10, S Presso, Eeco, Brezza, Baleno, and Grand Vitara due to a faulty airbag controller. The brand has stated that this issue has affected over 17,000 units manufactured between December 8, 2022 and January 12, 2023.
As per the regulatory filing to the BSE, Maruti said it will be recalling 17,362 units of the aforementioned affected vehicles to inspect and replace the airbag control unit, free of cost. The automaker suspects that in case of an accident, the faulty part can lead to a non-deployment of airbags and seat belt pretensioners. Maruti also cautioned owners to not use or drive their vehicles until those affected are contacted by the official workshops and the part is replaced.
This is the third time that Maruti Suzuki has had to issue a recall due to safety-related factors. Last month, over 9,000 units of the Grand Vitara, XL6, Ertiga, and Ciaz were recalled for a possible defect in the child parts of the front seat belt shoulder height adjuster assembly.
The automaker also recalled more than 9,000 units of the Ignis, Celerio, and Wagon R due to a defect in the rear brake assembly pins.
