Maruti Suzuki is all set to enter the electric vehicle category in the country early next year. The company will launch the much-awaited eVX electric SUV, which was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. It is set to enter the production line in coming months with global launch expected in early 2025, followed by India in Q1 or Q2, 2025.
The new Suzuki eVX will be manufactured at the brand's Gujarat based production plant and will also be exported to Europe and Japan. A new media report claims that Maruti Suzuki is planning to add 6 electric vehicle models to its portfolio by the end of 2030. While details about the future EVs from MSIL are yet to be revealed, reports suggest that the brand will have a compact electric MPV and an entry-level electric hatchback.
Codenamed YMC, the all-electric MPV is reportedly to be launched in India by mid-2026. It will be based on the same electric skateboard architecture that underpins the eVX. The all-electric MPV will also be exported to several global markets, and will be inline with the brand's Make-in-India, Made-for-World initiative.
Maruti Suzuki will introduce an entry-level EV, which will be based on the Suzuki eWX concept. The concept debuted at the Toyota Motor Show 2023 in October. The company calls it a 'practical mini wagon', which is built for daily commuting and city usage. This entry-level model will be launched sometime in 2027-28.
The production version of the Maruti Suzuki eVX electric SUV could be unveiled at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show, which is scheduled in January. Toyota India will also have its own version of the electric SUV, which has already debuted as the Urban SUV Concept. It is likely to be offered with two battery pack options - a 48kWh and a 60kWh. The top-spec model is expected to offer a range of up to 550km on a single charge.
