Mercedes Benz is rumoured to preview a new concept car at the upcoming Munich Motor Show in September. According to the latest reports, the concept will be the next-gen CLA, the brand’s entry-level sedan. Now, ahead of the show, the automaker has released a new teaser revealing a new entry-level EV. We take a closer look.
The German automaker recently confirmed that it is going to offer a pure electric offering for every segment by 2025. At the Munich motor show, the brand is going to reveal its smallest EV concept yet.
Expected to be named the EQA sedan, Mercedes says the new concept has been designed to provide a "vision for class-leading innovation, design and digital experience". While the teaser barely reveals anything, we did notice a few design elements. One of the most notable features is what looks like a strong shoulder line that runs the full length of the car. The teaser clearly reveals the silhouette of the upcoming model.
Mercedes Benz is planning to introduce three new ‘entry-level luxury’ models over the next 3 years. This will be part of the brand’s compact car line-up restructuring under its Electric First strategy. Additionally, Mercedes is expected to simplify its lineup by reducing the number of compact models from seven to four. Under the new strategy, the automaker is likely to discontinue the ICE-powered A-Class in the new future.
The upcoming EVs will be underpinned by the new Mercedes Modular Architecture platform. Compared to the ICE models, the lack of a transmission tunnel and battery pack placed below the floor means the EVs will be comparatively more spacious inside. Mercedes has also stated that they will have a more luxurious interior as the brand plans to focus more on high-margin luxury vehicles.
