Volkswagen has recently launched the Tiguan R-Line in the country as a CBU model. The company is now ready to launch the globally popular Volkswagen Golf GTI in the Indian market by May 2025. It will also come via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. Ahead of the official launch, VW has revealed new details including the alloy wheel size and colour options.
VW Golf GTI hot hatch won't have a direct rival in our market, but it could come as an alternative to the MINI Cooper S. It is expected to be priced around Rs 45-50 lakh (ex-showroom).
The new Golf GTI will come in four exterior colour choices namely, Grenadila Black Metallic, Oryx White Premium, Moonstone Grey and Kings Red Premium Metallic. Except for the Grenadila Black Metallic, all three colour options are available in dual-tone shade.
The company has also confirmed that the Volkswagen Golf GTI will be offered with 18-inch 5-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels in India. It will have all-black interior with contrasting red accents, and dual-tone black and silver upholstery for seats.
This is one of the most aggressive looking Volkswagen cars on sale in global markets. It has a sharper front fascia, featuring twin-pod LED headlights, five LED fog lights placed in star shape on lower bumper, a GTI Badge on the grille with red inserts, and a large front air intakes. The sporty hatchback gets wraparound LED tail lights, GTI badges on the front fenders, twin exhaust outlets, and a red GTI badge on the tailgate.
In terms of features, the Golf GTI could offer a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a triple-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, six airbags, TPMS, a heads-up display or HUD, disc brakes for all wheels, an electronic parking brake and ADAS suite.
The new VW Golf GTI will be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 261bhp and 370Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or DCT.
The hot hatch is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in just 5.9 seconds before hitting an electronically-limited top speed of 250kmph. It comes with a stiffer suspension setup for a more spirited performance.
