MG Motors has released the first pictures of the new Cyberster pure electric sportscar in production form at the 2023 Shanghai Motor Show. The convertible model is slated to go on sale globally by mid-2024.
The Cyberster is MG’s first sportscar of the modern era and also the brand’s first electric sportscar. The new model pays homage to the yesteryear MG models with its long sporting bloodline.
The sharp looking front end features a sculpted bonnet, wide air dam flanked by air intakes, a front splitter and teardrop-shaped LED headlights. The side profile gets a pair of scissor doors while the door handles itself are integrated into the window line. At the rear, the electric cabriolet gets a split rear diffuser and arrow-shaped LED taillights.
Moving inside, the all-new Cyberster features a brown leather interior along with an aluminum roll cage. The electric sportscar will also come provided with a dual-display setup for the instrument console and infotainment system, airplane-style Yoke steering wheel, Haptic Touch centre console, wireless charger and more.
The new MG Cyberster’s will be offered with either a single motor or dual motor setup. The single motor variants are rated for a maximum power output 310 bhp while the dual motor models pump out up to 543 bhp of max power, making it the most powerful MG ever. The brand claims a range of 800 kms on a fully charged battery.
The Cyberster will underpin an all-new platform that was previewed in the 2017 E-Motion coupe concept. Unlike current EVs which have a conventional module structure for its batteries, the Cybersted will have a ‘cell-to-pack’ battery structure instead. MG says this will improve production efficiency and power density.
The automaker is yet to confirm if the Cyberster will be launched in India. If it arrives to our country, it will likely become the third EV offering from the brand following the ZS EV and the upcoming Comet EV.
