MG Motors has just trademarked a new name for a car in India called "Excelor EV." This could mean that the brand plans to bring another electric vehicle into the Indian market after Comet EV and ZS EV. The British automaker applied for the trademark on December 26, 2023, and now it has been officially "Accepted & Advertised".
The manufacturer has kept the specifications of its upcoming Excelor EV model under wraps. There is no information available regarding its size, shape, or design.
It should also be noted that MG does not currently offer any vehicle named "Excelor" in any global market.
In addition, obtaining a trademark for the name does not mean the car will hit the market soon; rather, it is a step taken to secure rights for potential future use.
For this year, the brand has confirmed the launch of two MG cars. One of these will be the updated MG Gloster Facelift and another one could be an electric vehicle, possibly the Excelor EV.
Besides, the automaker also showcased a range of vehicles at Auto Expo 2023 including MG eHS SUV, eMG6 Hybrid Sedan, Marvel R EV, and MG eRX5 SUV. Possibilities are, one of these MG cars could be rebranded for the Indian market.
In a significant move, MG has established a partnership with JSW, with JSW obtaining a 35% stake in MG's operations in India. This strategic alliance sets the stage for potential developments in MG's Indian arm.
Scheduled for March 20th, 2024, MG is set to reveal more details about its upcoming plans, stirring anticipation in the automotive industry. Adding to the excitement, speculations are circulating that MG might introduce the MG 5 Sedan to the Indian market, with pricing details expected to follow in May 2024.
