While several automakers have decided to skip the 2023 Auto Expo, MG Motors will be there in full force. It will be showcasing its whole lineup, as well as a slew of upcoming models for the Indian market. Among them will be two new cars, the MG 4 and Air EV. Ahead of the official reveal, we look at both the models.
The MG4 is a pure electric hatchback offering from the brand expected to make its debut in 2023. The design, inspired by the Cyberster roadster concept, is sleek and futuristic. The front end is easily identifiable with its sculpted bonnet, central air intake, angular headlights and LED DRLs. The side profile gets two-character lines and dual-tone multi-spoke alloy wheels while the rear end gets a boot lid spoiler and LED taillights connected by a light bar.
On the inside, expect the new car to continue with the minimalist design seen on the international model. The dashboard will be the center piece of the whole design and is dominated by a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while the driver gets a 7-inch digital instrument console. The electric hatchback comes loaded with other features such as wireless charging, ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, OTA updates, sunroof and more. The MG4 also gets ADAS tech like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert.
Globally, the MG4 is offered with two battery pack options, a 51-kWh unit standard unit and a 64-kWh long-range unit. Both versions power a single motor mounted on the rear-axle. The smaller battery pack produces around 170 bhp while the long-range unit is rated for 203 bhp. The batteries can be charged from 10 – 100 percent under 10 hours using a 7 kW AC charger. However, the powertrain is designed to accept MG’s 150 kW DC fast charger, putting in 8- percent charge in under 40 minutes. Claimed range on the standard model is 350 kilometers while the long-range battery pack offers up to 452 kilometers.
The other concept to be showcased at the Auto Expo will be the MG Air EV. It is a small pure electric hatchback that is focused predominantly on city use. Renders of the India headed EV reveal a very boxy design with the front end getting low-set headlights and a LED light bar that runs the full width of the car. The rest of the vehicle continues the boxy theme with straight character lines and a rectangular rear window.
This means that the interior of the MG Air EV will be very spacious considering its footprint. Leaked pictures reveal a dual-tone scheme with the dashboard getting dual 10.25-inch displays for the touchscreen infotainment system and instrument cluster. While full specs and features will only be revealed at the Auto Expo, rest assured that the Air EV will come with the latest tech like climate control, wireless charging, connected car tech, and more.

Along with the two concepts, MG will also be showcasing the updated 2023 Hector compact SUV which is set for a launch just before the Auto Expo. The new model will feature a redesigned, sharper front end while the rear will get new taillights with a LED strip running the width of the vehicle.
MG car has already revealed the interior of the updated Hector. The dashboard will be getting a new 14-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment display. The Hector will also get a new digital instrument cluster, i-Smart connected car tech and ADAS functionality.
Mechanically, the MG Hector Facelift will remain unchanged and according to the rumor mill, the new model will be sold alongside the existing model in the company’s line-up.
